Nebraska Football 2011: Washington Recap, Wyoming Preview

Matt ZvolanekSep 19, 2011

Washington Recap: Nebraska won 51-38.  In Week 3, the Nebraska offense took some huge steps.  Freshman running back Aaron Green showed what he could do by running for a touchdown and receiving a touchdown pass. Young receivers again stepped up as evident on the very first play, a 50-yard pass to Kenny Bell, which set up a touchdown.  Rex Burkhead proved to be the workhorse, rushing for 120 yards and two touchdowns.

The defense was once again lackluster.  The loss of Alfonzo Dennard is hurting the entire defense, especially the secondary.  The Cornhuskers' secondary was burned several times by Washington.  Nebraska’s defense will need to pick it up with Big Ten play coming up.

Week 4 Matchup: Nebraska (3-0) vs. Wyoming (3-0)

What to Watch For: Watch to see if the offense can keep its numbers up.

Biggest Question:  Can Taylor Martinez continue to progress as a passer?  He has shown some progress but had several miscues, including missing a wide-open Kyler Reed in the end zone.

Projected Outcome: Wyoming is 3-0 but not a solid team.  The Cowboys had to survive two close games against some terrible competition, and is one of the worst 3-0 teams in the country.

Wyoming did force six turnovers last week against Bowling Green, meaning offenses can’t afford to snooze on the Wyoming D.  Nebraska should however, be able to regain confidence on defense.

Injured CB Alfonzo Dennard should be back on the field for next weekend’s matchup with Wisconsin.

Nebraska should roll over the Cowboys.  Predicted Score:  52-10

Interesting Fact:  Nebraska has put up 40-plus points in the first three games of the season.  The last time that happened was in 1995, and we all know what happened in 1995.
