College Football Rankings 2011: 3 Teams That Can Beat No. 1 Oklahoma
Oklahoma is the No. 1 team in the country, and deservingly so. They have been fantastic this season. However, there are several teams that have looked just as dominant. So, while there are very few teams that can beat Oklahoma, there are some. Like these three:
No. 2 Alabama
Alabama's defense is as good as it gets. They have allowed just six points per game in three 2011 games.
That includes an impressive effort holding Penn State to 11. Eight of those points for Penn State came with under two minutes to go when the game was already over.
Alabama is not all defense. They have a beastly running game. They are averaging 242 rushing yards per contest.
When you can run and defend like that, you can beat anyone.
No. 4 Boise State
Boise State's offense typically gets all the credit. However, what has truly propelled them into an elite program is their emerging defense.
They held Georgia to 21 points in the opener. That didn't seem all that impressive at the time. However, Georgia went on to put up 45 against South Carolina and then 59 against Coastal Carolina.
This is very solid team that is good in all areas of the game.
No. 6 Stanford
Stanford has plenty of weaknesses. So many they probably shouldn't be on this list. Their offensive line is still learning how to play together and their defense is solid, but not on the level of other top teams like Alabama, LSU or Oklahoma.
However, as they say, it is better to be Andrew Luck than good. Or something like that. The point is, that when Andrew Luck is your QB you can win any college game, anytime, anywhere.
It's not as if Luck is a one-man show. He has talent around him. And these guys play even better because they are on Luck's side. Luck is good enough to beat any defense.
