College Football Rankings: 3 Teams That Will Fall Out of Poll After Week 4

Brandon GalvinJun 2, 2018

Monstrous Week 3 upsets paved the way for a tumultuous Week 4 poll. The back end of the poll has seen a dramatic unforeseen shakeup.

Clemson upset the Auburn Tigers at home to essentially ensure the Tigers will never see daylight again this season.

Vegas had Notre Dame as favorites at home against Michigan State, and the Fighting Irish didn’t disappoint. RB Cierre Wood dominated the Spartans.

Arizona State inconceivably lost on the road to Illinois to drop out of the rankings.

Expect another topsy-turvy week of college football action. We’re going to see a ton of movement throughout the poll.

North Carolina at (25) Georgia Tech

Georgia Tech surprised many by cracking the top 25. One could argue Notre Dame, Miami (FL) or even Michigan State deserve to be ahead of GT.

Like many before them, I expect the Yellow Jackets to be one-week wonders. North Carolina is much better than people give them credit for. They are a stout team full of NFL prospects and will destroy GT’s top 25 status. It’s not about the offense for North Carolina, but the defense. With the likes of Quinton Coples and Dontae Paige-Moss, look for the Tar Heels to make noise.

(23) USC at Arizona State

USC enjoyed a nice home stand, but now they’re on the road heading into hostile environment. The Sun Devils are irate after losing to Illinois. Superstar LB Vontaze Burfict will be looking for blood in this matchup. Matt Barkley might want to start fearing for his life.

The Sun Devils made noise in Week 2 by upsetting Missouri at home, so the table is set for a repeat. Brock Osweiler can light up USC’s subpar defense. Monty Kiffin will be too cocky heading into this game, as usual, and it will come back to bite him in the end.

(10) Oregon at Arizona

Upset special of the week.

I say Arizona would give Andrew Luck and Stanford a run for their money. It wasn’t as close as I thought it would be, but stud WR Juron Criner looked great in his first game back from an appendectomy. Criner and Nick Foles will dissect Oregon’s defense.

The Ducks haven’t looked impressive this year and square off against a team with top 25 aspirations. They clearly are suffering from a National Championship hangover. The Wildcats have the speed to match the Ducks, which makes this an even duel.
