College Football Rankings: 10 Most Overrated Teams in Week 4's AP Top 25 Poll

Justin WeltonJun 7, 2018

College Football is entering its fourth week of the season. The AP Top 25 rankings are out and there are teams who are overrated.

You see it every week, especially early on. Teams that don’t deserve to be as high will prove why in the weeks ahead.

Here are the 10 most overrated teams in the AP Poll.

You find the list of the top 25 here.

No 10: South Carolina

1 of 10

South Carolina has one of the best offenses in the SEC. They do struggle on defense, allowing 33 points per game.

Their schedule isn’t the toughest one in the SEC. Most of their tough games are at home with a few road tests.

If they don’t solidify the defense, the Gamecocks could slip up somewhere on their schedule.

Alshon Jeffery and Marcus Lattimore may be the two best players at their position in 2011.

But, it’s going to come down to Stephen Garcia and his turnover problems on offense. Last year it was his bugaboo and this year he has already thrown three interceptions to just two touchdowns.

Steve Spurrier can’t afford to give the ball away when his defense can’t stop anybody.

South Carolina is a good team, but they have several flaws.

No 9 :Texas A&M

2 of 10

Texas A&M is ranked No. 8 overall.

Texas A&M played Southern Methodist and Idaho in their first two weeks. They will finally get tested this weekend when they host No. 7 Oklahoma State.

Brandon Weeden and Justin Blackmon will provide a tough test for the Aggies defense. They will be helped by their fans, as always, as the 12th man will be loud and proud.

No 8: USC

3 of 10

USC has struggled against teams who you would think they should beat decisively. In Week 1, USC beat Minnesota 19-17.

They have played every game at home thus far. We will see how they fair when they travel to Arizona State to play the Sun Devils.

Matt Barkley can’t be the only player to run the show on offense. The rushing attack must be able to come alive if they expect to win double-digit games in 2011. They have rushed for 394 in three games so far.

That won’t be good enough when they play Stanford, Notre Dame or Oregon later in the year.

No 7: Illinois

4 of 10

Illinois defeated Arizona State on the road to make their way in the Top 25. Their two previous games were against Arkansas State and South Dakota State.

Even with the Big 10 being down this year, Illinois will find out later in the year that they are slightly overrated.

No 6: Florida

5 of 10

Florida is going into the tough part of their schedule soon. They have played two cupcakes plus an average Tennessee team.

They are ranked No. 15 in the nation.

Before they climb up the rankings, quarterback John Brantley will need to more consistent. He is 47-72 for 637 yards on the season. He has thrown three touchdowns compared to two interceptions.

Florida will go as far as he takes them. It won’t be too far. Not this year.

No 5: Georgia Tech

6 of 10

Georgia Tech is ranked No. 25 in the nation. The Yellow Jackets are the best rushing team in the country. However, if their opponent can slow their rushing game down and force them to pass, they may be in some trouble.

North Carolina is their opponent this weekend. We will see what they can do to slow down their flashy running attack.

No 4: South Florida

7 of 10

South Florida’s big win of the season is at Notre Dame in Week 1. They were still in transition at the quarterback position to Tommy Rees. The victory doesn’t seem as great because of that factor.

They sit in a good position in the lowly Big East Conference. Their big test will be at Pittsburgh in two weeks.

We will see what kind of team they are then.

B.J. Daniels can’t be the only weapon on offense. Running back Darrell Scott will need to continue to rush the football with success like he has been doing so far.

No 3: Clemson

8 of 10

It was a great win for Clemson’s program on Saturday after they knocked off the defending national champion Auburn Tigers.

Let’s be honest though, at No. 21, Clemson is overrated. They barely beat Wofford 35-27 a week ago.

Once Florida State beats Clemson this weekend, we all will know that they are overrated.

No 2: Arkansas

9 of 10

Arkansas escaped with a 38-28 victory over Troy University on Saturday. They have played cupcakes through the first three weeks of the college football season.

Week 1 was against Missouri State, Week 2 was against New Mexico and Week 3 was Troy.

We will see exactly what the Razorbacks are made of this week when they play Alabama on the road.

Following that game, Arkansas hosts Texas A&M and Auburn at home.

Their offense will get exposed by the tough Alabama defense this weekend. We will find out how overrated they are.

No. 1: Baylor

10 of 10

Robert Griffin III is an absolute beast of a quarterback. He has put on a show through the first two games of the season.

Griffin has thrown for 624 yards and eight touchdowns through the air. He has also scored two touchdowns from 200 yards rushing.

The Bears will come down to earth in the coming weeks. At No. 17, Baylor will travel to Texas A&M and Oklahoma State in October.

Enjoy the success for now Baylor.
