ACC Expansion: Why College Football Armageddon Won't End Soon
College sports as we know it is in for Armageddon. The whole landscape of college sports are changing and will continue to change in the future.
ACC just picked up Syracuse and Pittsburgh for their conference in the future.
Who’s Next?
Texas and Oklahoma
Both Texas and Oklahoma could be on their way out of the Big 12 Conference. Money is always going to be an issue when talking about college football. Television money is the issue with these two schools.
These two historic programs could find themselves in new conferences soon. It is sad to see what the Big 12 is becoming.
UCONN
Now that rivals Syracuse and Pittsburgh are leaving the Big East to go to the ACC, they may have one follower, Connecticut.
How great would the ACC be in basketball? Duke, North Carolina, Syracuse, Connecticut and Pittsburgh? Wow, talk about the best conference in the country.
Time will tell if we see Connecticut flee like the others, but it would be great for Pittsburgh and Syracuse basketball fans to have a rivalry stay intact.
West Virginia
Not only would West Virginia be great in football, Bob Huggins and company would be a solid addition in basketball. Their likely destination would be in the ACC with their rivals Pittsburgh. West Virginia and Connecticut are the two teams that the ACC should heavily consider adding.
As a fan of the Panthers, it would be great to have Connecticut and West Virginia follow their path.
Solution
Just forget about having too many conferences and just stick with four 16-team conferences. I loved college sports the way it was, but this would be the best solution.
Attempt to keep as many rivalries as possible, but make sure you keep the college outlook fun to watch. Whatever you have to do to keep it that way, make it happen.
The college football world is being turned upside down. Don't expect it to end anytime soon.
