South Carolina Football: Upon Further Review, Midshipmen Pretty Good
How in the world was that team a 17-point underdog to South Carolina?
Watching that team play was hard to do. I can't imagine what it was like on the field. That's not to say I am not disappointed that South Carolina has yet to look like a top 10 team; they have not, and it is disappointing.
Is the sky falling, like so many other pundits have said?
Hell no.
Not even close. The Gamecocks have gritted out three solid wins, one against an underrated ECU (ask Virginia Tech), an underrated Georgia team (and how many times does South Carolina beat Georgia on the road?) and a vastly underrated Midshipmen team, who lost to Ohio State by four points in a year the Buckeyes won a BCS bowl in 2009.
In other words, these wins are solid, but not spectacular.
Look at Auburn's run last year. How many games were closer than they should have been?
I am not saying there are no issues with this team. There are. Garcia is a great leader and a winner, but he has to be more accurate. The defense has struggled to stop...well...anyone.
There are some great positives about this team, though.
Marcus Lattimore is the Heisman No. 1 at this point. If he continues at this pace, he will win the Heisman, no doubt in my mind.
Jadeveon Clowney is a one man wrecking crew. Watching him last night was amazing. His numbers weren't huge, but he was destroying blockers and chasing down runners. It was an intense performance, and he is a freak.
The offensive line is incredibly solid. We have not seen a line play this well in years.
So, as of right now, the sky isn't falling, and the team is right on track at 3-0.
It's great to be a (relieved) Gamecock!
