College Football Rankings 2011 Week 4: 3 Teams That Don't Deserve To Be Top 25

Chris HumphreySep 18, 2011

It was another great weekend of college football, headlined by the Oklahoma Sooners going to Florida State and proving they are the team to beat this season with a 23-13 win in Tallahassee Saturday.

While the top of the AP Top 25 is pretty much set unless there is some kind of upset in the coming weeks, the bottom of the poll is a very fluid place where teams are coming and going all season.

This week is no different but there are some teams that felt they were snubbed today as the AP Top 25 was released this afternoon.

In the following slideshow, you will see the three college football programs that haven't proved they belong in the AP Top 25 yet, but find themselves ranked anyway.

No. 25: Georgia Tech

1 of 3

Season Record: 3-0

Victories: Western Carolina, Middle Tennessee and Kansas

While Kansas is a team from a BCS AQ conference, that is if the Big 12 is still a conference when you read this, the quality of the team resembles that of a member of Conference USA or the Sun Belt.

While the Yellow Jackets are definitely a dangerous team with that unmistakable triple option attack, Georgia Tech will need to face some tougher competition than the trio of teams that were on the schedule to start the 2011 season.

No. 24: Illinois

2 of 3

Season Record: 3-0

Victories: Arkansas State, South Dakota State and Arizona State

While the upset of the Arizona State yesterday is a quality win for the Fighting Illini, Illinois still needs to prove they are the real deal against some of the big teams within the Leaders division of the Big Ten.

The first real test of the season for the Fighting Illini will be a visit from Ohio State to Champaign on October 15th. If the Illini can knock off the Buckeyes, Illinois could be in for a huge season if they can steal a win from either Penn State or Wisconsin later in the Big Ten Season.

No. 19: Texas

3 of 3

Season Record: 3-0

Victories: Rice, BYU and UCLA

With the Longhorns in a state of change as Case McCoy and David Ash battle for the starting quarterback role, Texas does not deserve to be in the top 25 as the team has only beaten up on a poor Rice team, survived BYU and hammered a weak UCLA team.

If the Longhorns can make it past a reasonably tough Iowa State team, Texas’ time in the top 25 will be ended shortly after their game with the Cyclones. A Sooner State double header as the annual Red River Rivalry game with Oklahoma and Oklahoma State at home could effectively end the Longhorns' chance at a Big 12 title.
