College Football Rankings Week 4: 5 Teams That Got Screwed
Each Sunday, the new college football rankings are released and each Sunday there are teams that get left out that should have been ranked.
This week had some great games that shook up the rankings for some of the elite programs in the country.
Here are five college programs that got screwed in this weeks rankings.
5. Miami Hurricanes
1 of 5Although they weren't the favorites in this week's game against No. 17 Ohio State, the Miami Hurricanes sent a statement to the ACC and the rest of college football with a 24-6 victory over the Buckeyes.
The Hurricanes looked better in every aspect of the game against Ohio State and could be a real threat to win the ACC title if they keep it up.
After a near victory against Maryland in the first game of the season without starting quarterback Jacory Harris, the 'Canes deserved a spot in the Top 25 after this statement win, but were left out altogether.
They received 39 votes in the USA Today Coaches Poll, but that was not enough to get them into the rankings.
A Michigan State Spartan team that got knocked around by a previously 0-2 Notre Dame Irish team is in the rankings, yet the Hurricanes were left out?
Looks like they got screwed. With another victory next week against Kansas State, the 'Canes should find their way into the Top 25.
4. Iowa State Cyclones
2 of 5After a 3-0 start to the season, including a triple overtime win against in-state rival Iowa, the Iowa State Cyclones surely have made a case to be in the Top 25 rankings.
Normally this would be a team that couldn't be too upset about being left out, but they have a better resume than many of the other 3-0 teams in the Top 25.
The North Carolina Tar Heels don't have any statement wins, but are ranked ahead of Iowa State.
The Cyclones have a better resume than No. 24 Georgia Tech as well. They received 27 votes in the USA Today Coaches Poll and have a tough test ahead of the next week in the No. 18 Texas Longhorns.
This week could be the only time the Cyclones had a chance to sniff the Top 25 and for that reason they got screwed.
3. Illinois Fighting Illini
3 of 5After a victory over formerly ranked Arizona State on Saturday, the 3-0 Fighting Illini deserve a spot in the Top 25.
Many teams in the Top 25 do not have victories over a ranked opponent including the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, Michigan State Spartans and North Carolina Tar Heels, who are all ranked ahead of Illinois.
They are ranked 24 in the Associated Press poll, but they deserve more respect in the USA Today Coaches Poll.
If the Fighting Illini keep the winning streak alive next week against Northwestern, they should find themselves in the Top 25 of both polls.
2. Auburn Tigers
4 of 5Despite losing to the Clemson Tigers in Death Valley on Saturday, the Auburn Tigers resume is good enough to have stayed in the Top 25.
The main reason Auburn got screwed is the fact that they have a better resume than teams that are in the Top 25, including the previously mentioned North Carolina Tar Heels, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and Michigan State Spartans.
It was a tough loss Saturday, but Death Valley is one of the toughest places to play and playing on the road is never easy.
If Auburn doesn't find their way back into the rankings after a victory next week over Florida Atlantic, they may never see the Top 25 again this season, as they head into a stretch where they play four of the top teams in the SEC with three of those games on the road.
1. LSU Tigers
5 of 5Despite being ranked in the Top Three of both polls, the LSU Tigers have in fact been screwed by the voters.
You are probably asking yourself how they could possibly be screwed when they are ranked so high. The reason? They should be ranked higher.
LSU has the most impressive resume of the teams in college football with victories over the then No. 3 ranked Oregon Ducks and Mississippi State on the road.
Even with such an impressive resume, the USA Today Coaches Poll decided to rank the Tigers No. 3, which is a complete travesty.
The Tigers have a case to be ranked No. 1 overall in both polls. If I had a vote, that is exactly where I would put them even despite Oklahoma's victory over No. 5 Florida State Saturday Night.
