Siena vs. Juventus: Matchday 2 Preview, Italian Serie A 2011/2012

Adrian AgiusSep 17, 2011

Last week saw the Italian Serie A finally kick off after much strike action. For Juventus, Matchday 1 proved to be one that would live in the memories of Juventini around the world for years to come. Playing host to Parma in their new stadium, Juventus went on to record a 4-1 victory which made headlines everywhere. Their opponent this week, Siena, did not record a victory, but for a team who were newly promoted to the Serie A, a 0-0 draw with Catania would still have been warmly received by fans.

Siena play host to Juventus this week, and although both clubs have very different objectives for the 2011/2012 season, they will both want to record victories to capitalise on their undefeated starts to the new campaign.

Juventus manager Antonio Conte, amongst both sides, will also be looking forward to heading home to club he formerly helped win a promotion to the Serie A before returning to playing club Juventus to replace Luigi Del Neri. Newly instated Siena manager Giuseppe Sannino will only be too aware that he will have to change up play to get beneath the skin of the high-flying Bianconeri.

SIENA

Giuseppe Sannino's side, considering their expectations, had a positive start to the new campaign with a draw away to Catania. The Tuscan side will take confidence from the fact that the last time they faced Juventus in the Serie A they drew 3-3 with the Bianconeri, closing a three-goal deficit against the Turin giants. They haven't found the back of the net thus far, and will be looking to get a goal and guild from there.

Siena have named a 24-man squad to face Juventus: Angelo, Bolzoni, Brienza, Brkic, Calaiò, Contini, D’Agostino, Del Grosso, Destro, Farelli, Gazzi, Gonzalez, Grossi, Larrondo, Mannini, Pegolo, Pesoli, Rossettini, Rossi, Sestu, Terzi, Troianiello, Vergassola and Vitiello.

Sannino will most likely adopt the same formation as last week, and look to target Juventus' two middle men in the form of Marchisio and Pirlo.

(4-4-2) Brkic; Angelo, Rossettini, Terzi, Del Grosso; Mannini, Bolzoni, D'Agostino, Brienza; Calaio, Gonzalez

JUVENTUS

After the successful attacking display Juventus put on show last week, Juve will be only too willing to go out once again and dominate possession around their opponent's penalty area. Juventus will have to play without Paolo De Ceglie, who will serve a suspension for his reckless challenge of Parma forward Sebastian Giovinco at the conclusion of last week's clash. The Bianconeri will also be without Vincenzo Iaquinta, who is once again injured.

Juventus have named the following 20 players for the clash against Siena: Buffon, Chiellini, Pazienza, Grosso, Pepe, Marchisio, Del Piero, Manninger, Vucinic, Barzagli, Elia, Quagliarella, Bonucci, Pirlo, Vidal, Giaccherini, Lichtsteiner, Krasic, Storari and Matri.

Considering the attacking formation of last week, and the lack of playing time for a number of key players Juventus will most likely adopt the following starting lineup:

With both sides recording positive starts to their respective campaigns, expect this clash to be intense right from the outset. With Juventus looking strong and Siena facing former manager Antonio Conte, expect anything from Siena versus Juventus.
