Ohio St. vs. Miami: 5 Second Half Adjustments the Buckeyes Need to Make

Alex CallosSep 17, 2011

The Miami Hurricanes have controlled the game from the start and heading into halftime, Ohio St. has some serious questions they need to answer if they plan on getting back in the game in the second half.

Miami has controlled both sides of the ball and dominated in the early going.

Here are five adjustments the Buckeyes need to make as halftime approaches.

Run the Football

1 of 5

Ohio St, particularly Jordan Hall, has had success running the football. While the Buckeyes have had trouble passing, the success they have shown on the ground must continue if they stand a chance in the second half.

Hall is fresh off a two-game suspension and has the potential to dominate in the second half if Ohio St. continues to feed him the ball.

Force Turnovers

2 of 5

Jacory Harris is a turnover waiting to happen. The Buckeyes need to continue to get pressure on Harris and make him force the ball into tight spots.

Ohio St. has already forced two turnovers, and if they plan on coming back in the second half, they will need to get at least one more.

Stop the Run

3 of 5

Miami has had success running the football, particularly on first and second down.

Ohio St. needs to turn that around in the second half, and it all starts up front.

The defensive line of Ohio St. has to dominate and force the Hurricanes into third and long situations where they can feast on Jacory Harris.

Play Braxton Miller

4 of 5

Miller has had his fair share of struggles in the first half, but even though he is a freshman, he gives Ohio St. the best chance to win.

He can make things happen with his feet, and he will calm down as the game progresses.

Joe Bauserman has struggled mightily and the best chance for the Buckeyes is to play Miller.

Wear Down the Hurricanes

5 of 5

As the game moves on, the big Ohio St. offensive line and running backs need to wear down the Miami front seven.

Ohio St. has a trio of running backs who can carry the load and help wear down the Miami defense. This should allow Ohio St. to put some points on the board as the game progresses.
