Heisman Watch 2011: The Top Week 3 Duds
With Week 3 in full force many Heisman hopefuls have begun to stake their claim in the 2011 race. Unfortunately for some, Week 3 slumps and upsets could easily have eliminated them from contention.
Will these candidates be able to rebound from their Week 3 stutters? Or will their poor performances kill their Heisman hopes?
With that said, let's take a look at this week's top Heisman duds.
Kirk Cousins, Michigan State
1 of 3As Michigan State fell to Notre Dame, Spartans' QB Kirk Cousins' Heisman dreams slid down with them.
Cousin finished the game 34-for-53 for 329 yards and only one TD. The MSU QB had a season low 64.2 percent completion rate while throwing a crucial fourth quarter pick. Although prior to week three Cousins did not put up the greatest numbers, his lack luster performance today along with the ND upset have most likely shattered his Heisman hopes.
Tyler Bray, Tennessee
2 of 3Tennessee QB Tyler Bray's Heisman sleeper status has most likely been eliminated today as the Vols took their first loss of the year against the Florida Gators. Bray had a terrible game going 26-48 with three TDs and two INTs and a 54.2 percent completion rate.
Bray's leading target Justin Hunter was injured early in the first half leaving Bray searching for other options. The Gators constant heavy pressure forced Bray into tough throws as the Vols fell short of a comeback.
David Wilson, Virginia Tech
3 of 3Despite the Virginia Tech victory, RB David Wilson's average play might have eliminated his Heisman chances. On 20 carries, Wilson only recorded 85 yards, far below his 162 yard and 138 yard previous performances.
Although Wilson's performance wasn't completely atrocious, his unspectacular play might erase him from most Heisman boards.
