Florida Gators Football: How Will Muschamp's Defense Has Contained Tyler Bray

Austyn HumphreySep 17, 2011

Tyler Bray came into the Swamp with startling stats, completing roughly 79 percent of his passes and having tossed seven touchdowns over just two games.

Bray, while still competing valiantly, is being limited by the Gator defense. Sure, there have been three pass interference calls, but the Vols still find themselves down 11 at the half.

What does it mean?

It means that Tennessee is still the orange blob, the remnants of a dormant dynasty that the Gators have come to know over the past half decade. The blob that they know and love, of course.

Bray has shown that he hasn't completely progressed since the Spring Game, where he had a tough time adjusting to Tennessee's modified offense. Thus, the quarterback's stats have been skewed. Montana is an FCS team, and my grandmother could score against Cincinnati.

Shariff Floyd, the recently re-instated Gator, has done a swell job pressuring Bray.

But Gators should not count these Vols out yet. Tennessee scored a critical touchdown right before halftime. By observing football history, many fans know that an end zone score that comes in a two-minute drill can make all the difference in momentum.

Bray's stats also are not that shabby: As of the half way mark, 12 of his 16 passes have been completions, and even the passes that weren't almost landed in a receiver's hands. He has yet to throw a pick, but the most important fact is that Bray is versatile. He has thrown completions to seven different receivers, so the Gators need to keep the heat squarely on him.

It's not over yet, so raise your voices Gator Nation! It's time for Bray to get frayed.
