SEC Football: Predicting the Winner of 5 Possible Championship Matchups
Over the past few years the SEC has been the dominant conference in the nation. They have produced national champion after national champion and have also been successful in big out-of-conference games during the regular season and bowl season.
The one benefit that the SEC receives is that their reputation has allowed most to feel that a one-loss SEC team should be allowed into the national championship over other undefeated teams.
One key to insuring that you can get to the national title game out of the SEC is by getting to the conference title game and winning. Here are five conference championship game matchups we may see in the SEC this year.
South Carolina vs Alabama
1 of 5SEC East Winner: South Carolina
SEC West Winner: Alabama
Outlook: South Carolina uses their high flying offense to earn the division win in the East and meet up with Alabama, who became battled-tested by winning the West.
The Gamecocks defensive issues finally catch up with them as they struggle to stop long scoring drives by the Crimson Tide.
Winner: Alabama 31-17
Florida vs LSU
2 of 5SEC East Winner: Florida
SEC West Winner: LSU
Outlook: With new head coach Will Muschamp and offensive coordinator Charlie Weis, the Gators get things turned around and get back to the top of the SEC East.
LSU has certainly looked dominant and they find a way to navigate through a tough SEC West on the strength of their defense which ultimately would shut down the Gators offense and earn the Tigers a conference crown.
Winner: LSU 27-10
Georgia vs Arkansas
3 of 5SEC East Winner: Georgia
SEC West Winner: Arkansas
Outlook: If all hell breaks loose in the SEC, who knows, we may just get this matchup. If Georgia can get things turned around after their 0-2 start and Arkansas can get through a rough SEC West.
Should the two teams meet up, we would be in store for a high-scoring affair as Mark Richt saves his job and helps the Bulldogs win the SEC title.
Winner: Georgia 41-37
South Carolina vs LSU
4 of 5SEC East Winner: South Carolina
SEC West Winner: LSU
Outlook: Back to reality for a game that would not surprise anyone. South Carolina appears to still have enough offense to compensate for their defense and LSU looks national-championship good.
These two teams would exchange blows and both teams' strengths would play into each other, those being LSU's defense and South Carolina's offense. Look for the Tigers to win on a late field goal.
Winner: LSU 24-21
Florida vs Alabama
5 of 5SEC East Winner: Florida
SEC West Winner: Alabama
Outlook: One last possibility would be a familiar matchup of Florida and Alabama. Overall, the Crimson Tide would have the advantage on both sides of the ball and should be able to dominate the game.
Winner: Alabama 34-13
