College Football TV Schedule Week 3: 3 Games That Don't Belong on National TV

Michael DixonJun 7, 2018

I want to make one thing clear. I don't have a problem with lesser known teams being on national television. What I don't like is games that have little to no chance at being competitive finding themselves on national TV.

Sure, I understand it. The big- name teams draw the viewers. They just don't always give us the best games.

These are the kind of lists where I would be extremely happy to be wrong. Unfortunately, I don't see it happening.

Syracuse vs. USC. 8:00 PM EST on FX

I don't expect USC's luck to last all year. They have a very tough run of opponents that will give them trouble in the middle part of the schedule.

But Syracuse is taking a trip across the country to take on the Trojans. I like Matt Barkley to have a good game and for the Trojans to keep this one pretty one-sided.

Granted, USC hasn't exactly blown anyone out this year, but they did progress against Utah.

Again, the competition will eventually drag the Trojans down this year. But this game will be over by halftime.

New Mexico vs. Texas Tech. 3:30 PM EST on Versus

Texas Tech is generally an offense that does some serious damage to opponents. They scored 50 points in the opener against Texas State.

Conversely, New Mexico comes into this game at 0-2, having lost 14-10 against Colorado State and 52-3 to Arkansas.

Now, Texas Tech isn't as good as Arkansas, but this one won't be close.

Again, it's not that I have a problem with smaller schools being on national TV. What I don't like is having a game that's an obvious blowout on national TV.

Stanford vs. Arizona. 10:45 PM EST on ESPN

On the one hand, I am happy to see a game like this on national TV. As a West Coast fan, I like the thought of Andrew Luck being on national TV and having the opportunity to impress Heisman voters. Whether they stay up is another issue.

On the other hand, he's torched Arizona twice (although he did lose one). Those were much tougher Wildcat teams than this year's appears to be.

This one will get ugly in a hurry, as Luck and the Cardinal are off to a very strong start. They have scored 101 points in two games and have been relatively stingy on defense.

It's a Pac-12 showdown. I understand why it's on national TV. But if you're looking for a great game, look elsewhere.
