College Football Rankings: 3 Reasons Oklahoma Will Remain Football's Top Team
What could be better than the Oklahoma Sooners and Florida State Seminoles battling on a Saturday night for an early shot at the BCS championship?
If your answer to this question is nothing, then my friend, you are in the right place!
Simply put, it doesn’t get any better than this in a Week 3 matchup and all the marbles are already on the line.
That’s the beauty of college football, though, isn’t it?
While I do admit that the BCS system, school politics and conference drama can be more than overwhelming at times; this is a moment where college football gets to stand out for what it really is.
When all is said and done, there is nothing better than the competition, emotion, rivalry, heartbreak and jubilation that come along with a big-time football game.
The players on both teams will be pumped up, the fans are more than ready and a clear shot to the BCS title is on the line.
If you don’t have goose bumps by now, I’m not sure what else I can do.
As good as Florida State is and will be in the future, I have to give the nod to the Sooners winning this game.
Here are three reasons why:
1. Landry Jones
Jones is one of the best quarterbacks in the nation, but he doesn’t come without a few questions. A win here on the road would legitimately solidify his legacy as a Sooner quarterback, as well as his NFL draft stock.
I’m not saying he wants to win for those reasons, but what I am saying is that he has a lot riding on the game.
As the leader of the team, he bares the responsibility and privilege of being the hero when things go right and the scapegoat when they go wrong.
I think he’s going to step up to the challenge that Saturday night presents him with and provide us with an epic performance.
2. Coaching
Big-Game-Bob earned his nickname by having a reputation for winning big games. He’s going to have to put that reputation on the line once again, and the stakes couldn’t be any higher.
No offense to Seminole head coach Jimbo Fisher, but I would prefer having Bob Stoops on my sideline in a game of this magnitude.
Fisher is a great offensive mind and a great coach, but Stoops has the big-time experience advantage over him.
In the future, that may even out. However, in the here and now, I think that gives Oklahoma a huge advantage over Florida State, especially on the road.
3. Ryan Broyles
Broyles is by far Jones’ favorite target, and he is easily one of the most dangerous receivers in football. He gives the Sooners the edge in this game for one huge reason: he’s great on third down.
He’s got fantastic hands and runs excellent routes. When he finds a way to get open, which he usually does, Jones will find him and the chains will keep moving.
In a game that features a lot of offensive firepower and isn’t necessarily billed for defense, Broyles is going to be key for Oklahoma. The Sooners will win if they can get up early and keep their foot on the gas, and Broyles is going to be the Sooners best option.
