Maryland Football Uniforms 2011: Terrapins' New Uniforms Much Easier on the Eyes
When the Maryland Terrapins took the field for their season opener against the Miami Hurricanes last week, it looked like Cirque du Soleil had come to College Park.
Either that or a squad of medieval jesters. It was certainly something other than a football team, anyway.
Some of you may have no idea what I'm talking about, so I'll just keep it simple. Courtesy of Under Armour, the Terrapins were garbed in new uniforms for their home opener that were slightly different from what we're used to. Some people were fans of the new threads, others couldn't stand them but nobody could stop looking at them. Meanwhile, Twitter was overloaded to the point of Fail Whale capacity.
By the way, the Terps won the game 32-24. Perhaps the new threads were good luck?
Maybe, but we'll never know for sure. The new unis were always going to be a one-and-done thing, and the word from the school's website is that the Terps will switch to a new design for this Saturday's tilt with No. 18 West Virginia.
As you can see, these new(er) unis are much different. Instead of a bold, colorful look, they boast a much more down-to-earth straight black motif, with color as needed.
Or at least, such is my amateur fashion-guy assessment of them. Not very poetic, I know.
But truth be told, I do kinda dig these new(er) threads. The color motif and general attitude of them is still markedly different from what we typically associate with Maryland, but they're not quite as loud as the unis Maryland wore in its opener.
I may be alone here, but I think the Terps are going to look like a football team again in these unis. Not quite the same old Terps, though, and I think that’s a good thing. The program is obviously committed to cultivating a new image, and this steady progression of new unis is only going to help them accomplish this goal.
