Manchester United: Red Devils Hoping To Prove Beauty Trumps Age vs. Chelsea

Gabe ZaldivarSep 15, 2011

The football gods are smiling on us, giving us a delight in the form of Chelsea and Manchester United. Red takes on Blue, age takes on beauty, and all the while a question will continue to be answered: Who is the best side in the Premiership?

Chelsea head to Old Trafford in a Sunday showdown that is sure to pique the interest of every last football fan. There is simply too much to consider in this marquee match.

Manchester City has been making their way to the top of the table in the last couple of years. You can also never count out Arsenal, nor Liverpool. But Chelsea and Manchester United have been the ultimate duo in the last decade.

The Blues were mired in stagnant waters. They relied too heavily on aging stalwarts such as Frank Lampard, John Terry and Didier Drogba.

Meanwhile, Sir Alex Ferguson welcomed a youth movement at Old Trafford, blending the young with the old, creating what seems to be the perfect blend of hunger and wisdom at the start of the 2011-12 EPL season.

Chelsea is not one to sit idly by; they have a youthful manager that will put his mark on Stamford Bridge while creating a legacy of his own. In fact, manager Andre Villas-Boas has already made a statement.

The Blues will get younger and they will start to stretch the field. They acquired Juan Mata, a 23-year-old winger that seems to have awakened the feet of fellow Spaniard Fernando Torres.

Chelsea also brought on youthful defender David Luiz to play a pivotal role alongside Terry. The club has brought in the youth it needed to spark the side from the doldrums.

But they are still playing catch-up.

Manchester United have shouted from the hilltops that their beautiful play is the only game in town. The Red Devils have a fluid and marvelous attack that has been made possible by the play of Wayne Rooney.

Ferguson has gone so far as to compare his spirited striker with the likes of Pele. In the past few weeks, the comparison is not so far fetched. Rooney has been the impetus of a side that has destroyed teams with gaudy results.

United is truly playing the beautiful game. Newly-acquired Ashley Young has been the flair they need on the wings. The one pall is the loss of Tom Cleverley for a few weeks with an ankle injury.

The midfielder almost erased the loss of legendary player, Paul Scholes. The Devils still have the depth to counter these losses. Ferguson has created a deep side.

On Sunday, we will be treated to two clubs that are constantly searching for ways to bolster their rosters. A loss is a blemish on their proud name. A win is a badge of honor that can be worn for weeks.

This is a must-see event that proves no team can remain stagnant for too long. New faces and fresh talent is the premium of the EPL. Two of the best will battle on Sunday, leaving the real winners to be us football fans.
