College Football 2011: Overrated Tailgates in Week 3

Randy ChambersSep 15, 2011

You can't have football without tailgating; they go together like peanut butter and jelly. It's the one thing that will keep the fans coming back no matter how your team is performing on the football field.

Nothing better than showing up hours before the game with friends, barbecuing, drinking and playing football in the parking lot. It's part of football tradition and is more of a lifestyle than anything.

Tailgating is fun no matter where you do it, but these five games are the most overrated spots to be at during Week 3.

Arkansas State at Virginia Tech

1 of 5

Virginia Tech has one of the most beautiful campuses and one of the most electrifying entrances in all of college football, but this week, it's overrated.

The Hokies are coming off a close victory over East Carolina, and they want to show the college football world that they are much better than that. Unfortunately for Arkansas State, they get to be Virginia Tech's next victim as they score 50 points and hold the Red Wolves under ten.

I'm sure the pulled pork and sweet potato fries are great, but the game needs to be good as well. With only one of the two, I'm not showing up.

Coastal Carolina at Georgia

2 of 5

We all know the Georgia Bulldogs have one of the best tailgating experiences in the entire country. Well, they did until the NCAA put restrictions on their fun.

The Georgia Bulldogs are currently 0-2, and although they show more promise than most winless teams, that record still doesn't look pretty. There's no question they will earn their first victory over the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers, but who are they?

It's kind of hard to get excited about an 0-2 team playing a team that lost to Richmond and Stony Brook last year.

I'll wait until next season for my grilled roast beef sandwich and Stromboli.

Troy at Arkansas

3 of 5

Can you imagine the ribs that are cooked at Razorback Stadium? Wait, what, Arkansas is playing Troy? Um, yeah, I'll come back next time.

Arkansas looks like one of the most balanced teams in the country and will continue to do so with a match up against Troy. This is a team that gave up 43 points to a Clemson team that struggled with Wofford.

I'll get my "Woo pig sooie" on some other time.

North Texas at Alabama

4 of 5

I really hate to put Alabama on this list because I would crawl to Tuscaloosa for some of their barbecued pork and ribs.

But like many of the teams on this list, Alabama is playing a team that won't outscore them once in any quarter. This time, it's North Texas, and the Mean Green have already been destroyed by Florida International and Houston. What do you think the Crimson Tide are going to do to them?

Show up next week when Alabama plays Arkansas, and make sure you stop at Dreamland BBQ; I hear it's a law out there.

Syracuse at USC

5 of 5

There are a lot of things to like at a USC tailgating party, and women are one of them. Not only is it a beautiful place to be but the food and the females are everywhere. Did I mention the girls are hot?

OK, the reason I have them on here is once again, who they play. Is it just me or is it hard to wake up and watch a Big East team play? Especially one in Syracuse who needed overtime to beat Wake Forest and only beat Rhode Island by seven.

I would love some lamb or tacos, but I would definitely have to wait for Stanford or UCLA to come to town.
