Penn State vs. Temple: TV Schedule, Live Streaming, Radio, Game Time and More
The whole state of Pennsylvania will be tuned in on Saturday to watch two of the top teams in the state face off when Penn State Nittany Lions takes on the Temple Owls. Last year PSU ran all over the Owls for a relatively easy 22-13 victory.
It's a new season now and the Owls are off to a solid 2-0 start over lesser opponents while the Nittany Lions are coming off a painful loss to Alabama.
Here is everything you need to know for this Saturday Showdown:
Where: Lincoln Financial Field
When: Saturday at 12:00 p.m. ET
Watch: ESPN and live streaming at ESPN3.com
Live Audio: 93.7 The Bus, 1350 ESPN Radio in Pittsburgh
Betting Line: Penn State -7
Over/Under: 44.5
Temple LB Tahir Whitehead:
"I expect it to be a lot of Penn State fans. The year before my freshman year they said it was basically a home game for Penn State . . . I expect them to travel with a lot of fans.
"
Temple QB Mike Gerardi:
"I heard it was something like 90 percent Penn State fans. It's great to have the stadium built but when it's your home field and 90 percent of their fans, it's not something you want for your home field.
"
Despite playing the game at the Owl's home stadium, it looks as if this interstate rivalry is going to be extremely lopsided when it comes to the fans in attendance.
Injury Report:
Temple:
CB Kee-ayre Griffin- He played in Week 2 but was limping afterwards with a leg injury. The senior started 10 games last season and finished with 21 tackles and one interception. His status is probable for Week 3.
Penn St:
LB Dakota Royer- He missed the Alabama game dealing with a hamstring injury and remains doubtful to play in Week 3. The redshirt freshman reserve would only be called upon as a last resort vs. Temple.
OL Mike Farrell- A sprained knee in the opener forced him to miss the Alabama game and enters the game listed as questionable.
Temple Players to Watch: QB Mike Gerardi has been solid to this point in the year against two lesser schools, but this will be by far his biggest test. If he can stay poised in the pocket and avoid stupid turnovers, the Owl's offense will move the ball.
The play of Temple's front seven will be huge on Saturday. Last year the Owls were gashed for 187 yards from Evan Royster. It was the biggest difference in PSU's win. With a new running back in charge, Temple must minimize the damage.
RB Bernard Pierce is the Owls junior running sensation. He is averaging over seven yards a carry and has already amassed 297 yards on the ground. If he can continue to move the chains and help dominate the time of possession battle, Temple is going to have a great shot at pulling the upset.
Penn State Players to Watch: The Nittany Lions are expected to play two quarterbacks, Rob Bolden and Matt McGloin, for the third straight week. Bolden engineered one of the best games of his career against the Owls last season, completing 18-of-28 throws for 223 yards, including a late 96-yard touchdown drive that sealed the win.
Here is yet another game for one of the QBs to separate themselves.
RB Silas Redd has the look of a future star. He has the sort of power, vision and speed that Pen State fans haven't seen since the days of Larry Johnson. Expect the Nittany Lions to rely heavily on Redd to gash a highly questionable front four of Temple.
Prediction: Penn St. 27 Temple 21
The Penn State defense is better than what they showed last week against Alabama. Expect them to put consistent pressure on Owls QB Gerardi which will lead to too many mistakes.
The Nittany Lions running game dominates and Penn State rebounds after a tough loss last week.
