BYU Football: Tracking This Season's Opponents

Ryan TeeplesSep 14, 2011

BYU has a unique schedule this year.

Heavily front-loaded with cupcakes late season, the Cougars' slate is similar to last year. There's no chance for fine-tuning on a 1-AA opponent. Instead, it's changing the tires while driving down the road.

So how are the past and future opponents performing so far this season?

Let's take a look.

Ole Miss

1 of 10

After losing a close one to the Cougars in Week 1, the Rebels took care of business against Southern Illinois. However, they gave up more yards than they gained, and the Salukis managed over 400 yards and 24 points where BYU barely scored 14.

This week, Ole Miss opens SEC play against Vanderbilt and hosts Georgia the following.

Texas

2 of 10

The Longhorns beat the Rice Owls in week one on an underwhelming performance, then won last week's game against the Cougars.

This week, Texas travels to UCLA for a tilt against the hapless Bruins, then must travel to the Hawkeye State to take on an Iowa State team that upset Iowa last week.

Central Florida

3 of 10

After a tune-up game against Charleston Southern, the Knights of Central Florida made short work of the ACC's Boston College 30-3.

The Knights have another cake-walk against Florida International before making the trip to Provo to battle the Cougs.

Utah State

4 of 10

The Aggies made headlines in Week 1 after having Auburn against the ropes before melting down and allowing the Tigers to win.

And in Week 2, they seemed to suffer from a little let-down, allowing Weber State to stay even with them in the first half before putting the game away expeditiously in the second.

This week, the Aggies host Colorado State before heading to Provo.

San Jose State

5 of 10

The Spartans got pasted by Stanford in Week 1 after hanging tough for a quarter. Week 2, they took a pitiful UCLA team to the fourth quarter tied.

The Spartans play host to Nevada and New Mexico State next.

Oregon State

6 of 10

Lost in the Utah State near-shocker was the fact that Oregon State opened the season with a loss to FCS team Sacramento State in Corvalis.

An awful start to a brutal schedule, the Beavers followed that up with a loss in Madison to Wisconsin, 35-0.

Unfortunately, things don't get easier for OSU, with trips to Arizona and ASU on the horizon.

Idaho State and Idaho

7 of 10

Idaho, which had seen success in recent years, opened with a loss at home to a bad Bowling Green team, but followed it up with a W against North Dakota State.

Idaho State is an FCS school which lost to Pac-12 doormat Washington State in week one.

TCU

8 of 10

In a thriller, TCU lost to Baylor on the road 50-48 in front of an eager national audience.

The Frogs followed that up with a beat-down of a pretty decent Air Force team in Colorado Springs.

TCU has two automatic Ws against Louisiana Monroe and Portland State, who are up next.

New Mexico State

9 of 10

The Aggies pulled of a shocker of their own, beating a Minnesota team on the road that took USC to the wire the previous week.

However, that was after getting pummelled by a bad Ohio Bobcats team in Week 1.

The Aggies have UTEP and San Jose State next.

Hawaii

10 of 10

Admittedly, I expected Hawaii to run through their schedule prior to the Cougars without a loss.

They looked to be on that path after a Week 1 blowout of Colorado at home.

However, the Warriors got too far down early against the Washington Huskies last week before losing 40-32.

The good news is, they have UNLV and UC Davis up next.
