Chelsea FC News: Are the Blues the Biggest Threat in Premier League?

Chelsea isn’t the biggest threat in the Premier League.

They’re on their way to becoming it.

The Blues are set to battle Manchester United in their next match. While I would normally dismiss the Stamford Bridge side in such an encounter, they proved a lot to me in their 2-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen.

Manchester United is rightfully the most feared team in all the land, but Chelsea has the pieces to match up well with the Red Devils. Their duel on September 18 will prove to be the best of the year thus far.

Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas knows his team faces an uphill battle on Sunday and a different monster to anything else they’ll face this year. He is quoted in The Telegraph as saying:

"We face United perhaps in their most tremendous moment of motivation and flair and style," said Villas-Boas, who feels Didier Drogba may need more time to recover from a head injury with the striker only set to resume training with the squad at the end of the week.

"A team that has made its impact at the beginning of the Premier League is different from last year, but I think it provokes in us a good challenge.

"Motivation will be the key factor in the game, and the capacity of people to transcend themselves and take the game through and come back from Old Trafford with a win.

"We will go there to try to win it. Let's see how it happens. It's going to be a very, very good early-season game for the Premier League."

The Blues and Red Devils are both 4-2 in the Premier League, which suggests the Blues are on par with their rivals.

I wouldn't go that far quite yet, which is why the Blues need a strong showing to put their stamp on the season.

That being said, Manchester United and striker Wayne Rooney have every right to fear a resilient Blues club going into the match.

The Blues will give the Red Devils a run for their money and present the biggest threat to the Old Trafford outfit this season. If they can pull off the upset, they would vault ahead of them to become the favorites to win it all.

Rooney may be the most talented performer on the field at any given time, but the Blues may have the most talented overall rotation. They have the players to counter Rooney’s impact. It will be nearly impossible for anybody to fully eliminate Rooney from a contest, but Chelsea can neutralize his efforts and win this nail-bitter. 

One win and the Blues will skyrocket to the top as the biggest threat in the league.
