Chelsea FC Transfer Rumours: 4 Players the Blues Will Aim to Sign in January

Marlon MaloneyJun 7, 2018

Chelsea spent most of the summer transfer window trying to upgrade the pace of their aging midfield. They missed out on nabbing Luka Modric from Tottenham, but were able to sign Raul Meireles and Juan Mata.

They have helped add creativity to the club in the past few matches, but perfectionist Andre Villas-Boas is still not happy with his team's performance since the transfers were completed. Having Daniel Sturridge and Mata on the wings has helped improved the play of striker Fernando Torres, but he still has just one goal in 21 appearances.

Asked about Torres' lack of goals, Villas-Boas said: "It can never compromise the objectives of the team and the things you want to achieve. It's not just about scoring goals, it's about creating opportunities and he's been doing that. The moment when it compromises the running of the team I think it has to come to an end.

"I have no problem dropping players," the Chelsea boss added.

Milos Krasic

Chelsea and Manchester United have both been rumored to be after Juventus winger Milos Krasic. Villas-Boas would like to add the Serbian international and is prepared to add central defender Alex to any monetary deal that might be agree upon.

This was a deal that was sought after during the summer transfer window, but the Blues' heavy pursuit of Modric put it on the back burner. With the knowledge of Tottenham's unwillingness to sell Modric, Chelsea can focus their efforts on Krasic in January.

Gary Cahill

Bolton defender is rumored to be linked to Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal in the upcoming transfer window. He would make a welcome addition to Stamford Bridge, adding some depth to the club's back line.

Cahill has aspirations to play for a bigger English club.

"As a professional you want to strive and be the best you can and try to get to the highest level you can," he stated before adding: "At the moment I'm not doing that so all I can do is put my performances in for Bolton Wanderers."

Stevan Jovetic

Fiorentina forward Stevan Jovetic has not been making his re-signing of a contract with the Serie A club a priority this season. He was rumored to be under pursuit by Arsenal and Chelsea over the summer and may be interested in a change.

Arsenal and Chelsea are sure to make another run at the Montenegrin international once again in the new year. "It's not only Chelsea who want Jovetic, but Arsenal also," said former Fiorentina defender Roverto Galbiati.

Robinho

According to Talk Sport Newspaper, "AC Milan are lining up a surprise swap deal with Chelsea involving Fernando Torres and Robinho."

With Torres' very public complaints about his teammates and the bevy of talent the club possesses at forward, Villas-Boas could decide to cut ties with the troublesome striker.

Milan was one of the other teams in pursuit of Torres last season before he was ultimately moved to Stamford Bridge, and Robinho was heavily pursued by Chelsea in 2008.
