Derrick Rose: 5 Reasons He'll Repeat as League MVP in 2012

Jeffrey McKinneyMay 31, 2018

Last year Derrick Rose became the youngest player in NBA history to receive the Most Valuable Player award.

Rose lead the Chicago Bulls to a league-best 62-20 record and lead the Bulls to the Eastern Conference finals.

While it will be a challenge for the Bulls and Rose to have the same success as last year, here are five reasons why Rose can repeat as league MVP.

He Will Improve from Last Year

1 of 5

One of the main things Derrick Rose strives to do each year is improve.

Each year that Rose has played in the league his stats have increased.

If Rose continues to increase his stats, he should have no problem being among the league’s best in scoring and assists once again.

He Means More to His Team Than Almost Any Other Player in the League

Last year, Rose led the Bulls to a league-best 62-20 record.

What makes this such a great feat is the fact that Rose only played with the Bulls starting big men, Carlos Boozer and Joakim Noah, together for a short amount of that time due to both being out with injuries.

Although Rose has a good team around him, he does not have Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh like LeBron James has nor did he have Pau Gasol, Lamar Odom and Phil Jackson like Kobe Bryant.

Take Rose out of the equation for the Bulls, and they would not have half the success they had last year.

He's a Model Player for the League

One of the things that makes Rose stand out from other players is how humble and quiet he is.

Rose is without a doubt one of the league's top young stars.

Rose is not on the same level as Kobe and LeBron, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

It could mean fewer problems and distractions off the court for himself and the NBA.

He Plays Hard on Both Ends of the Floor

One of Rose’s best assets is the fact that he plays good defensive as well as offense.

The Chicago Bulls are a defensive-minded team thanks to coach Tom Thibodeau.

Rose improved in both steals and blocks in both the regular season and the playoffs.

Although some players tend to take plays off, Rose gives it his all every moment he’s on the floor.

Rose Is a Clutch Player

When the Bulls needed a playmaker in the closing minutes of a game, they turned to none other than Derrick Rose.

Whether Rose made the game-winning shot, made the right decision to pass the ball or made a game-winning defensive play, he was one of the most clutch players, if not the most, in the league last season.

The MVP should no doubt be the person the team needs to turn to in the closing seconds. Rose is one of the best down the stretch.
