College Football Predictions Week 3: 3 Big Ten Teams on Upset Alert
Any given week in college football, anybody can beat anybody.
This week in the Big Ten, there are quite a few teams that need to be on upset alert.
Because games such as Michigan State-Notre Dame and Ohio State-Miami (FL) are basically toss-ups, I'm not listing those teams as being on upset alert.
However, there are a few games where the Big Ten team is the clear favorite, but their opponent may be tougher than some think. Here's a look at three Big Ten teams that need to be careful this weekend.
3. Northwestern at Army (3:30)
1 of 3Northwestern is off to a 2-0 start and has looked very impressive so far. Going into Boston College and winning in their opener was extremely impressive, and somewhat unexpected.
The Wildcats may think that they are just going to roll over Army, but they need to be careful.
Even though Army is 0-2, their two losses are to two solid teams in Northern Illinois and San Diego State. In fact, Army nearly beat SDSU but ended up losing by only three.
Northwestern is clearly the better team in this one, but they have to beware of the fact that it is a road game. In college football, almost no road game (whoever the opponent) is a gimme.
Northwestern will probably win this one and keep their perfect season alive, but look for it to be a lot closer than people think.
2. Washington at Nebraska (3:30)
2 of 3Neither Washington nor Nebraska have looked impressive so far this year. Washington struggled with an FCS opponent in their opener and then barely beat Hawaii last Saturday.
Nebraska, on the other hand, barely beat Fresno State this past week.
If this game was being played in Washington, the Huskies just might be favored. But it's not, and Nebraska is.
It would be somewhat of a surprise if Nebraska loses this game, but not a huge one. Expect Nebraska to win this game, but barely.
Don't be too surprised if Washington pulls the upset though.
1. Miami (Ohio) at Minnesota (3:30)
3 of 3After the way they played against USC, it was a huge surprise to see Minnesota lose to New Mexico State on Saturday.
Now Miami (Ohio) comes to town and if Minnesota isn't careful, they could be staring at an 0-3 start.
The RedHawks have only played one game so far this year. They opened their season at Missouri, where they actually almost won, but ended up losing 17-6.
If Miami plays the way they did against Missouri, they will probably win this game.
Which Minnesota team is going to show up? The one that almost beat USC or the one that lost to New Mexico State?
Either way, look for this to be an extremely close game, and don't be surprised if Minnesota is considered the underdog in this one.
