Michigan Football: Did A.D. Make Mistake in Giving Legacy Jerseys to Players?

Michigan's goofy "block M" jerseys that Michigan wore for the Notre Dame night game are not going back to the athletics department.

Michigan's Denard Robinson asked if he could keep his jersey following the Wolverines fourth quarter comeback against Notre Dame on Saturday.

After scrounging around the NCAA rule book, Michigan Athletic Director, Dave Brandon, said that the players may keep the jerseys because they "were from a special event and the cost was under a threshold."

But hold on a minute.

Remember why the Ohio State Buckeyes football program is going through sanctions right now?

The golden pants, made famous by a pawn shop in Ohio, brought about sanctions on the Ohio State Football program because they accepted improper benefits in selling these golden pants.

Now, of course, Michigan players are skeptical that anyone on the team would trade or sell their jersey while still at Michigan.

After all, Michigan saw "that team from Ohio" and what happened to them when they sold merchandise from games.

But, there's always the outside chance.

After the sanctions that Michigan programs have been under—whether it's the basketball program with the "Fab Five" scandal, or the football program with increased practice time under Rich Rodriguez last year—the last thing Michigan needs is more sanctions because some player on the team decided to see how much money he could get for his legacy jersey.

I don't see anything happening in regards to selling these jerseys because of the aforementioned Ohio State scandal, but there's always the off-chance.

Hopefully Dave Brandon does not have to regret this decision.
