Auburn Football: Tigers' Resillency Will Land Them in Top 20 Soon
Auburn football entered this season ripe for a championship hangover. In their first two weeks of play they have proven they are not going to let that happen. This is one resilient group.
The Tigers lost their best offensive and defensive players in Cam Newton and Nick Fairley. These guys weren't just the best offensive and defensive players on their team, but it could be easily argued that they were the two best in all of college football. Obviously, these were huge losses and are hard for any team to recover from.
It is clear that Auburn has spent their time looking forward and not lamenting their losses and consoling themselves with the fact that they can rest on their championship laurels.
The same spirit that guided this team to a championship last year is alive and well in this squad. And that is a never-say-die attitude. This Tigers team cannot be counted out until the final whistle. They believe they can win every game and that belief has them fighting on every snap of the game.
Both of their wins have come down to the wire, and the Tigers had to put up 40 points to win them both. They used a furious last minute comeback to survive an upset in their opener with a 42-38 win over Utah State.
Auburn had to score 14 points with less than four minutes on the game clock to win that one. The next game they used a last-minute goal-line stand to preserve a 41-34 win over a then-ranked No. 16 Mississippi State team.
Both wins displayed that knack for winning that made this team so special in 2010. It is now clear, that while it may not always be pretty, it is likely going to be a victory. This group has a knack for coming up big when it matters most, and that is going to keep pushing them up the rankings.
