South Carolina vs. Georgia: 5 Best Moments from the SEC Opener
This past Saturday, South Carolina defeated Georgia by a score of 45-42 in the SEC opener for both ball clubs. It is important to take note that in recent history, the team that loses this game has yet to make it to the SEC Championship game.
Having said this, the game did not fail on delivering excitement to the fans. The game was full of big and clutch plays by each team.
These are the five best moments from Saturday.
5. Aaron Murray TD Pass to Tavarres King
1 of 5With 2:33 seconds left in the game and the Georgia Bulldogs down by 10 points, QB Aaron Murray connected with Tavarres King for a 33 yard touchdown score.
King somewhat "Mossed" the South Carolina corner back, out-jumping him and catching the ball.
This score gave the Bulldogs a chance, though it was a slim one, to come back and potentially win the game.
4. Antonio Allen Interception for TD
2 of 5This interception for a touchdown by Antonio Allen could not have been more timely for the South Carolina Gamecocks. At this point in the game, Georgia just turned the ball over the previous possession which lead to an easy Gamecock touchdown.
Then Allen picked off Aaron Murray for a touchdown giving South Carolina two scores in 30 seconds.
Allen's pick was the most timely play of the game.
3. Isaiah Crowell's First Touchdown as a Bulldog
3 of 5This 17 yard reception touchdown will be one for Bulldog fans to remember. Five star prospect, Isaiah Crowell, finally made his mark for Georgia by scoring his first touchdown in his short college career.
Crowell's touchdown came off of a short screen type play in which he caught the ball and used his great acceleration to outrun the former number one high school prospect in the country, Jadeveon Clowney.
Two future stars were involved in this play making and it one of the best moments of the game.
2. Jadeveon Clowney Sacking Aaron Murray to Put the Nail in the Coffin
4 of 5One could say that the coming out party of young star Jadeveon Clowney was this past Saturday. He rocked Aaron Murray twice throughout the game and made the biggest play in the entire game by forcing a fumble with less then four minutes left in the game.
Clowney came through the middle of the line untouched and taught Murray a lesson on protecting the ball and taking a sack.
Not to mention that Melvin Ingram scored his second touchdown of the game on this play, which is pretty good for a defensive tackle.
1. Fake Punt Touchdown Run for South Carolina
5 of 5This was the biggest play of the day in all of college football. At this point in the game Georgia was up 13-7 and was about to get the ball back right before the half with a chance to extend the lead before they received the ball after halftime.
This was a huge swing in not only momentum, but for team morale. Sanford Stadium was in awe of what just happened and this gave South Carolina some life that they were lacking in the first two quarters of the game.
Hats off to Steve Spurrier for the play call.
