Arsenal Transfer News: 7 Players Who Could Turn Gunners into Winners

Joe TanseyJun 6, 2018

Arsenal made noise on the last day of the transfer window as they swooped up Per Mertesacker, Park Chu-Young and Mikel Arteta but there are still ways to improve for the Gunners to catch up to both Manchester clubs.

The losses of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri have taken a toll on a young team especially up front where Robin van Persie seems to be the only one scoring at the moment.

Between injuries and a schedule full of fixtures with the Champions League starting this week, manager Arsene Wenger will be seeking to find more players that can make an instant impact at the Emirates Stadium.

Eden Hazard

Hazard was a star last season for Lille as they won the Ligue 1 title. It was believed that the Belgian would have possibly joined the Gunners with Gervinho from the French club in the summer.

Lille wanted to hold onto Hazard because they had already let Gervinho and Sylvain Marveaux go in the summer.

It is only a matter of time before Hazard joins a bigger club and with midfield familiarity with Gervinho as well as the young corps of players at the Emirates, the 20-year-old could fit right in.

Gary Cahill

Now that the Bolton defender is the better Cahill in the Premier League, Everton's Tim Cahill is getting older and more importantly, that Gary Cahill's defending skills have improved, he is looking to move to a bigger club.

Both Arsenal and their rivals Tottenham were chasing after the England international in the summer but neither team could secure his signature.

Cahill has been a stalwart in Bolton's defense under Owen Coyle and may be one of the future center backs for England for a long time to come.

Chris Samba

3 of 7

Just like Cahill, Samba has been an Arsenal target for a while and has been a stalwart in his team's defense.

The Congo international may be looking for a new club if Blackburn stay near the relegation zone.

Whether it be in January or next summer, Samba will move from Rovers soon and the Gunners are one of the favorites to pick up the defender.

Ola Toivonen

4 of 7

Toivonen, who plays for PSV in the Eredivisie, could follow the path that Robin van Persie took from the Dutch league to the Emirates.

The move for van Persie from Feyenoord in 2004 has worked out well for Wenger and with a chance to duplicate such success in January it would be worth the risk for the Gunners.

The 25-year-old Swede has scored three international goals and 35 for PSV since joining the club in 2009.

Mario Goetze

5 of 7

Goetze is the latest young player to come to prominence in the Bundesliga and at only 19 years old, the Borussia Dortmund forward is gaining attention from the big clubs in Europe.

Goetze has already scored two goals in nine appearances for Germany and is looking to impress with Dortmund this season in the Champions League.

Arsenal do have to be aware that if the German has a good season in the Champions League and Bundesliga, his price may go up along with the interest from other big clubs.

Esteban Granero

6 of 7

Granero is one of Real Madrid's young prospects who has seen his playing time dwindle in the past year or two.

Last season, Granero only saw 19 appearances in Jose Mourinho's squad compared to the 31 appearances he made the year before.

Granero could be a well needed addition to backup Mikel Arteta, who plays in generally the same position as his compatriot.

Yann M'Vila

7 of 7

The Rennes defensive midfielder could be added as well needed protection to the Arsenal back four.

M'Vila could follow the trend of young players to join the Arsenal lineup and could be there for the time to come.

The French international who has 13 caps could join fellow Frenchmen Bacary Sagna at the Emirates Stadium.
