Georgia Football: Christian Robinson Injury Continues Steak of Bad Luck for UGA
The Georgia Bulldogs just cannot catch a break.
The most recent hit the Bulldogs must deal with is a foot injury to linebacker Christian Robinson, who happens to be one of the defensive captains.
The junior inside linebacker injured his foot late in the Week 2 game against the South Carolina Gamecocks, and head coach Mark Richt said in his postgame radio interview that Robinson's injury was one of the reasons Georgia did an onside kick at the end of the game.
According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Robinson will be out "at least" two games.
This is a huge blow for the Bulldogs because they lost Alec Olgetree, their other starting inside linebacker, for four to six weeks with a broken foot in Week 1 against Boise State.
Richt told reporters that, "We've definitely got a challenge at the linebacker position right now."
Luckily for the 0-2 Bulldogs, they have a cupcake game against Coastal Carolina in Week 3, and in Week 4, they travel to Oxford to take on Ole Miss, who might be the worst team in the SEC.
Georgia has had to deal with quite a lot over the last few months, and it's clear they're struggling from it. The run game was dismantled over the summer, and Richard Samuel was forced to leave the linebacker position to play running back again.
Junior Michael Gilliard, freshman Amarlo Herrera and senior walk-on Jeremy Sulek will all compete for the job, but they will all likely be rotated throughout the game.
Herrera started in Week 2 in place of Olgetree, but all three played. With Robinson out for the next two games, these players must step up and make plays for the Georgia defense.
Hopefully, Robinson will be back in three weeks because the other Bulldogs of the SEC come to Athens. Vick Ballard of Mississippi State will run all over Georgia if these inexperienced players are forced to compete without the leadership of Robinson.
The Bulldogs can't afford any conference losses if they want a chance to contend for the SEC East, but with key players dropping left and right, it's hard to see these Bulldogs going anywhere in 2011.
There is still a ton of football left to be played, but that also means a lot of time for the Bulldogs to be hit with more bad luck.
