College Football Rankings 2011 Week 3: 4 Most Laughable Rankings
The AP pollsters don't get it.
The college football season is two weeks old and it's becoming clear what teams have championship aspirations and who is a complete fraud. Yet the polls are slow to catch up and are still rewarding teams that had great success last year.
Here are four rankings that are way off:
No. 5 Florida State: too high
The Seminoles have played two horrible teams thus far and have yet to impress.
Why did a team that had the best recruiting class in the nation and made a mid-level bowl game a year ago get rewarded with such a lofty ranking?
Expect Florida State to be exposed Saturday against No. 1-ranked Oklahoma and tumble out of the illustrious top five.
No. 6 Stanford: Too Low
The Cardinal have the best player in the nation and have played incredibly well in their first two games. The offense is averaging more than 50 points a game, good enough for fourth in the nation. The defense is not too far behind, surrendering a mere 8.5 points a game, 10th in the nation.
This team is firing on all cylinders and deserves to be higher.
No. 17 Ohio State: Too High
Anytime you sweat out a home victory over the Toledo Rockets, you don't deserve to be ranked. Giving them a top-20 ranking is absolutely absurd.
QB Joe Bauserman and new head coach Luke Fickell have a long way to go if they expect to win the rugged Big Ten.
No. 22 Arizona State: Too Low
Arizona State has one of the best wins of the year thus far with its 37-30 OT victory over a ranked Missouri team. The Sun Devils have a high-powered offense that can put up big points on any team they play.
With an incredibly manageable schedule leading up to their showdown with Oregon in mid-October, expect the Sun Devils to be a top-15 team soon. They should already be in the top 20.
