College Football Rankings 2011 Week 3: 2 Big Names That Won't Stay Ranked
There are frauds littered throughout the latest AP poll.
Certain big name teams are living off their performances from last year, yet with teams constantly changing from year to year, the slate should be wiped clean.
Here are two teams that will be knocked out of the rankings as soon as they finally get exposed as the 2011 pretenders they are:
No. 17 Ohio State Buckeyes
The tattoo scandal robbed the Buckeyes of their QB for good and some of their other top players for five games.
The result is an inexperienced QB with a young core of players that struggled to put away the mighty Toledo Rockets
Yes that's right, a team ranked in the AP poll had to hold on for dear life against a mediocre MAC team. They clearly are not the Sugar Bowl winning team of a year ago and the polls need to catch up.
Expect Saturday's trip to Miami to expose Ohio State and begin their path to falling out of the rankings. New head coach Luke Fickell has a ton of work ahead of him.
No. 22 Auburn Tigers
Yes they won the National Championship earlier this year, but the team lost almost every single starter on both sides of the ball. Cam Newton and Nick Fairley are now distant memories.
They had to completely start over this season and the results haven't been very pretty.
They needed a small miracle to stave off the Utah State Aggies, and needed their second in as many weeks on Saturday against Mississippi State. A backup safety had to make the game saving leg tackle on the final play of the game to keep their record unblemished.
Their defense is in shambles and is currently giving up 36 points a game. The team speed is severely lacking and it’s painfully obvious when watching them on the field.
Aside for running back Michael Dyer, this team doesn't have the playmakers necessary to win in the SEC. As they approach the meat of the schedule, expect the Tigers to go on a nasty losing streak that banishes them from the 2011 polls for good.
