College Football Rankings Week 3: 5 Under the Radar Teams on the Rise
Everybody knows about how great LSU has looked, how Oklahoma has justified their designation as the top team in the country and how Alabama has all the makings of a National Championship team. That's all well and good, but there are plenty of other teams who are on the brink of making some noise in the rankings.
There are a number of under the radar teams whose stock is currently through the roof. They might not be in the top 10 and some even failed to crack the top 25 at all.
Here are five under the radar teams on the rise who could shake things up as we get deeper into the season.
Texas
1 of 5Narrow victory or not, beating BYU was a huge accomplishment for Texas. They get a solid win and prove that they are deserving of being in the rankings. Voters are still cautious about investing too much faith in Texas, but it's clear now that they are much more than just another bubble team.
Texas faces a brutal Big 12 schedule, which ultimately means that they are going to be fed some tough losses this season. It also means they've got a number of opportunities to pull off massive upsets that make them even more feared around the conference and country.
Oklahoma State
2 of 5Oklahoma State is a top-5 team who isn't ranked as such. They have a great opportunity to sneak up on teams in the top 5 and quietly work their way up the rankings. Despite crushing Arizona, voters still fail to recognize the Cowboys as the dominant team that they are.
Playing Oklahoma and Texas A&M gives Oklahoma State an opportunity to show the world what they are made of this season. Fortunately for them, they are flying quietly under the radar and not receiving the attention they earn on a week to week basis.
Oregon
3 of 5After falling hard to LSU, Oregon is being discounted by the vast majority of people. Don't be fooled. One loss isn't going to keep this team from making a National Championship run and LaMichael James isn't going to be bottled up, as he has been for the first two weeks.
Oregon is going to get progressively better and still stands a great chance of winning the entire Pac-12. They've got a fairly easy schedule in front of them, but can still muster up some signature wins and shock everyone by returning to the National Championship.
Arizona State
4 of 5After taking down Missouri on national TV, it became clear that the Sun Devils weren't just a bubble team who could one day break into the rankings. The veteran leadership on the team and stellar quarterback play from Brock Osweiler makes Arizona State a Pac-12 contender.
Vontaze Burfict is getting the national recognition he deserves and will lead the Sun Devils to the best season they've seen since 2007.
South Carolina
5 of 5South Carolina took down a tough SEC opponent in Georgia and have established themselves as one of the best teams in the SEC. Obviously Alabama and LSU have proven to be all they were supposed to be and more, but there is no writing off the Gamecocks this season.
Marcus Lattimore has an opportunity this season to go from being an excellent player to a collegiate icon. A big win in Week 2 is the first step for them towards being recognized as one of the best teams in the country.
