Real Madrid vs. Getafe: Rating the Madrid Players

Mohamed Al-HendySep 11, 2011

This past Sunday, Real Madrid kept up their winning start to the season with a solid 4-2 win over Getafe. Unlike last week against Zaragoza, Getafe did not make the game easy for Real Madrid, but Real Madrid still managed to outscore their opponents to make it 10 goals scored in two games, and six points out of six.

Here, we will take a look at the performance of each individual Real Madrid player involved in the game and assign a rating to each player.

GK: Iker Casillas—7.0

Not much Iker Casillas could do on either Miku goal for Getafe. Let down a bit by his defense against Getafe but still pulled off a couple or so impressive saves to keep Real Madrid in control of the game.

LB: Marcelo7.0

As is generally the case whenever Real Madrid do not dominate their opponents, Marcelo's hyper-offensive style put Real Madrid in a bit of trouble defensively as Getafe found themselves in possession of a great deal of freedom down their right wing. They didn't make much use of it, so Marcelo gets a 7, but it could have been much worse for him and Madrid.

RB: Sergio Ramos7.0

Did a solid job of defending at right back and covering for Pepe whenever he found himself out of position, but didn't have as big an offensive contribution as he usually has.

CB: Pepe5.5

Strangely, this was just a poor game for Pepe. The Portuguese international found himself out of position repeatedly, didn't ever seem to be in the right place, and was shaky in possession, repeatedly giving the ball away. A game to forget for Pepe.

CB: Ricardo Carvalho6.0

Better than Pepe, but not by much. Controlled and distributed the ball better than Pepe, but was also defensively fragile and partially at fault for Real Madrid's conceded goals.

DM: Fabio Coentrao6.5

More of the same from the converted defensive midfielder. Battled in midfield, made solid interceptions, but needs to improve on his finishing as he wasted two very solid chances to score.

HM: Xabi Alonso6.0

Seemed to pick up an injury in the first half which affected his performance for the rest of the game. Did not have much of an impact on proceedings, and seemed to defer to Ozil who took over the role of deep-lying playmaker for most of the game.

RW: Angel Di Maria—6.5

As usual, Angel Di Maria was lively and made some very eye-catching dribbles through the game. However, there was no end product today and Di Maria's performance was cut short with him being subbed off for Kaka.

Not a high-scoring game for Cristiano Ronaldo, but he still made a very clear impact on proceedings. He won and scored a penalty (that probably should not have been awarded), almost scored what would've been a very nice overhead goal and made a magnificent assist to Karim Benzema for the third goal of the game.

AM: Mesut Ozil7.5

Ozil assisted Karim Benzema's first goal for Real Madrid, and generally ran Real Madrid's offense from deep, somewhat usurping Xabi Alonso from his role in this game. Did not get on the scoresheet, but had a good game.

CF: Karim Benzema8.0

Karim Benzema showed against Getafe that he has no issues putting the ball into the back of the net. He received very nice assists from Ozil and Ronaldo on his two goals, but both still required a degree of finishing, which Benzema had the class to deliver.

Substitutes

AM: Kaka7.0

Came on in the 72nd minute, and once again made an impact by grabbing the assist for Gonzalo Higuain's goal. To be fair though, it was a "partial" assist (but a very nice pass nonetheless); Gonzalo Higuain still had a lot to do to put the ball in the back of the net.

CF: Gonzalo Higuain7.5

Came on in the 87th minute, and immediately made an impact by scoring a well-taken goal, putting the game out of Getafe's reach in the process.

CM: Esteban GraneroN/A

Eighty-ninth minute substitute for Karim Benzema. Granero had no time to have an impact on the game..

Check back next weekend for Player Ratings for Real Madrid's game with Levante (which should be a high scoring affair), and leave your feedback on the Player Ratings for this week below!
