Week 2 Heisman Trophy Stock Watch
With Week 2 of college football action nearly in the books, it's time to take a look at the Heisman Trophy stock watch.
There have been some absolutely incredible individual performances to date, thrusting several players into the conversation even at this early juncture.
This stock watch runs down whose stock is up, whose is down as well as which players are holding steady and which are long shots but still in the picture.
Some guys were in the preseason discussion, and some of them forced their way in with brilliant play and dazzling performances.
Check it out.
Who's Up
1 of 5Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford
Tied his career high with four touchdowns against the hapless Duke Blue Devils.
Russell Wilson, QB, Wisconsin
Tossed three more scores to go with his two through the air and one on the ground last week.
Marcus Lattimore, RB, South Carolina
Amassed 176 yards and a score in a win over Georgia.
Michael Dyer, RB, Auburn
Notched 150 yards and two touchdowns in an upset of Mississippi State.
Who's Down
2 of 5Garrett Gilbert, QB, Texas
Gilbert was benched in the middle of the BYU game after completing as many passes (two) as interceptions. His career as a starter is in serious jeopardy already.
Who's Holding Steady
3 of 5Trent Richardson, RB, Alabama
Richardson has been solid to this point but not especially spectacular. He has only gained 148 yards on the ground, but he has found paydirt five times. If he is to remain in the race, he will have to be more effective.
Crashing the Party
4 of 5Robert Griffin III, QB, Baylor
Five touchdowns and 359 yards through the air in Baylor's opening win against TCU.
B.J. Daniels, QB, USF
Daniels has put up 487 yards and two touchdowns in two games—not too shabby.
Robert Woods, WR, USC
Three touchdowns on 17 catches in the opening game and 279 yards receiving total so far this season.
Darron Thomas, QB, Oregon
Six touchdowns in a win over Nevada.
E.J. Manuel, QB, Florida State
Manuel has racked up 581 yards and six touchdowns through two games.
Vick Ballard, RB, Mississippi State
With four touchdowns and 301 yards in two games, Ballard has looked very explosive.
Michael Floyd, WR, Notre Dame
The freak of nature already has 313 yards receiving on a whopping 25 receptions in two games.
Longest of Long Shots
5 of 5It's not often one gets to see a defensive lineman score a touchdown in a game.
South Carolina had a lineman score not one but two today in the Gamecocks' 45-42 victory over Georgia.
Melvin Ingram, an end, scored on a 68-yard fake punt, then scooped up a fumble later in the game and returned it five yards for the score.
If that's not worthy of some Heisman consideration, I don't know what is...
