Notre Dame Fighting Irish Week 2 Uniforms: Love Them or Hate Them?
Look at what Oregon has started.
Even stodgy, staid old programs like Michigan and Notre Dame are getting into the act for tonight's match-up by going back to the throw-back uniforms.
The actual game being played on the field between Michigan and Notre Dame might be overshadowed by the throwback unis worn by both squads.
Here is a breakdown and grade for each part of the Irish outfit for tonight's battle under the lights.
Helmet: 10/10
Yep, that's the one. I have never in my lifetime seen Notre Dame with anything on their gold helmets. If there was a time to change that, it was tonight, and they nailed it with the shamrock design.
Kept it simple, yet changed it dramatically at the same time.
Jersey: 7/10
Once again, the whole shamrock theme is pleasing to the eyes, and the stripes on the shoulders are a bonus. However, it still comes off a little plain.
Pants: 5/10
Nothing to see here. The traditional gold can be found on the pants, along with the school symbol in green on one leg and the Adidas symbol on the other.
Shoes/Socks: 8/10
Those shoes and socks are clean. The green brings the whole thing together, and the shoes are incredibly fresh. Maybe it's just me, but the green and white combo is extremely aesthetically pleasing.
Gloves: 2/10
Really? They look like a zebra got lost and was used in the crafting of these fine hand coverings.
Well, it's not quite that bad, but is this really the best they could come up with? And that leprechaun is just not working on the palms.
Overall: 8/10
All in all, the Irish are pulling it off, the uniform is not reminiscent of anything worn by Maryland or Oregon, and yet still comes off as new, fresh and stylish.
Hopefully they help the Irish rebound from that tough loss.
So, love them or hate them?
Here is what Warren Sapp had to say about the whole thing on Twitter:
"Notre Dame and Michigan are going to make about 20 mil each with these retro unis. Maybe they'll give each student athlete an extra snack."
