EPL: The Club With the Best Chance of Winning the Title

Zaakir HoosenJun 2, 2018

As we enter into week four of the Premier League with both Manchester clubs leading the table, it's clear that the league has become tougher and more open in the last couple of seasons.

While there might be two or three favorites to clinch the title come May next year, there are at least six possible contenders.

I haven't come to any conclusion, so this list is in no particular order.

I would like your thoughts on who you see as a realistic contender.

Arsenal

1 of 6

Arsene Wenger and his youngsters have always been there or thereabouts when it comes to challenging for the Premier League title.

This season the Gunners seem to have made some early errors, and look to fall short yet again. But is it too early to write them off? The departures of Cesc Fanregas and Samir Nasri have only worsened the situation at the Emirates, but a number of new faces will give a renewed belief to fans, who might feel they still stand an outside chance.

Biggest Task: Wenger will be to bring this group of youngsters together and create a sense of belief within them, something they surely lack.

Most Important Player: Robin van Persie

Chelsea

2 of 6

The days of Jose Mourinho are ones that many fans still keep in high esteem, as Chelsea were able to wrestle the Premier League crown away from Manchester United during his time at the club.

Chelsea still seem one of the obvious choices to challenge for the title, and new boss Andre Villas-Boas has brought in some quality players.

But there are two questions to be answered—can he figure out Chelsea's best starting 11, and make a sustained challenge for the title? And can he get the best out of Fernando Torres? If he can answer both of those positively, Chelsea could be in the reckoning for yet another title.

Biggest Plus: Juan Mata could be the difference for the Blues, and his linking up with Fernando Torres from wide areas could be the missing link.

Most Important Player: Juan Mata

Liverpool

3 of 6

21 years have passed since Liverpool last won the league title, but millions of faithful supporters still stand by their team, hoping that this might be the year. With a rejuvenated spirit, new faces and great ambition from the coach and board, it seems it could be the start of a new era at Anfield.

But as for serious contenders to win the crown, I have my doubts.

Kenny requires a minimum of one season with this squad to find the right combinations before he can really challenge their rivals. No doubt Liverpool are back and mean business, but the key for them will be to finish in the top four and qualify for Europe next season.

Biggest Influence: Steven Gerrard's return from injury will be key, having him in this new LFC line-up alongside Downing, Adam and Saurez will be magic.

Most Important Player: Luis Saurez

Manchester City

4 of 6

Millions have already been spent and, if needed, there's still millions available. Manchester City have built one of the most star-studded lineups, with experienced players who could win almost anything in sight. But could they win the Premier League?

Roberto Mancini's biggest problem will be to keep the frustration level's at bay as, with so many quality players in the squad, ensuring everyone gets game time and is happy will be a balancing act.

This aside, City have one of the toughest defenses in the league complemented by the most potent attacking force in Europe. The money could start talking—and soon.

Biggest Problem: Keeping players happy

Most Important Player: David Silva

Manchester United

5 of 6

Many see the departure of Edwin van der Sar as the biggest challenge to whether United retain the title or not.

As a squad they have depth, quality, youth and, most importantly, hunger and a desire to win. In defense and attack Sir Alex has some of the best in the business, many who are young and willing to do anything to win.

The question mark is still on David de Gea, though Sir Alex has put his full trust in the Spanish goalkeeper. With an excellent start to the campaign, the next couple matches will give us more insight to United's chances. An away game at Bolton will be a tough test for the new keeper, who will be put under physical pressure.

Biggest Test: Successfully replacing Van der Sar

Most Important Player: Nani

Tottenham Hotspurs

6 of 6

In many regards, Spurs have fallen of the radar to a certain extent. Below par performances have allowed them to drop points, and they already look like on-lookers rather than title challengers.

With Chelsea and Liverpool looking to be back on track, and City so much stronger than last season, Spurs will have to be challenging for fourth spot rather than Premier League medals.

Biggest Downfall: Letting Peter Crouch go

Most Important Player: Emmanuel Adebayor
