Oklahoma State vs. Maryland Football Uniforms: Which Ones Were Uglier?

Under Armour obviously wanted to get people talking about Maryland’s uniforms this season, and they certainly succeeded by trotting out the Terrapins in a colorful checkered ensemble on Monday night against Miami.

Maryland’s uniforms have already caused quite a buzz in the sports world, even though most of the reaction has been negative.

As the public relations folks like to say, though, there's no such thing as bad publicity.

The state flag-influenced uniforms have put Maryland in the lead for the honor of worst uniforms of 2011 but they weren’t the only team to don some eyesores on opening weekend.

Oklahoma State came out in an all-grey look that, hopefully, we never have to see again.

So which team had the worst uniforms?

Let’s take a look.

Maryland's Misguided State Pride

Making a uniform out of a state flag sounds like an interesting idea, but of course, it all depends on what the design of the flag is.

Besides Mississippi’s state flag, I couldn’t think of a worse flag to make a uniform out of than Maryland’s.

The yellow and red checkered design that Under Armour came up with for Maryland’s uniforms was certainly eye-catching, but for all the wrong reasons.

Oklahoma State’s Grey Disaster

Nike made up some new jerseys for Oklahoma State to wear this season, but they got off on the wrong foot by giving the Cowboys some all-grey duds to wear in their season-opener against Louisiana-Lafayette.

The uniforms were about as bland as you can get and they looked like something that should be worn in practice, instead of an actual game.

So Which Were Worse?

Even though Oklahoma State’s grey uniforms were pretty bad, I have a feeling that it’s going to be a while before we see something as eye-wrenching as what Maryland put on display on Monday night.

Under Armour should be proud.

Maryland's Better Option

Under Armour appears to be hell-bent on stealing away Oregon’s "Uniform King" title by breaking out over a dozen new designs for Maryland to wear this season.

Some of the new looks are good, some not so much, but I can guarantee you that all of them will be better than the nightmare we witnessed on Monday night.

This black and yellow design is one of the more interesting concepts that the company came up with.

Oklahoma State's Better Option

Last night, Oklahoma State went with an all-black ensemble for their game against Arizona and it was a much sleeker looking choice than the all-grey look.

All-black uniforms seem to be a trend that’s catching on in college.

Tonight, Arizona State will break out the all-black look for the Blackout game against Missouri.
