Texas, Alabama and More Top 25 Teams on Upset Alert in Week 2

Adam SpencerJun 7, 2018

Week 1 of the college football season saw a few Top 25 teams go down.

Oregon lost to LSU, Notre Dame lost to USF and TCU lost to Baylor.

Week 2 promises just as many chances for upsets as Week 1.

So, without further ado, let’s take a look at eight ranked teams that are on upset alert in Week 2.

Alabama and Texas are among the teams on upset alert, despite winning their first games last weekend.

No. 25 TCU (at Air Force)

1 of 9

TCU is struggling.

Last week, they allowed 50 points to Baylor.

Air Force rushed for 391 yards last week, so they have a very potent offense. They are just as capable of putting up 50+ points against TCU as Baylor was.

No. 24 Texas (vs. BYU)

2 of 9

Texas still isn’t back to their national powerhouse ways. And, last week, they only beat Rice.

This week will be their first real test to see how far they’ve come from last season’s 5-7 finish.

BYU has a very legitimate shot of pulling off an upset.

No. 21 Missouri (at Arizona State)

3 of 9

Missouri didn’t look very good against Miami (OH) last week.

The offense looked disjointed and out of rhythm under new quarterback James Franklin.

And, after losing two defensive starters to injury, the Tigers are in definite danger of being upset on Friday night.

No. 16 Mississippi State (at Auburn)

4 of 9

The SEC is a tough conference, and road games are especially tough.

There’s no way Auburn plays as bad this week as they did against Utah State, and there’s no way Mississippi State plays as well as they did against Memphis.

It will be a very good game, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see Auburn pull off an upset on their home turf.

No. 13 Oregon (vs. Nevada)

5 of 9

Oregon didn’t look very good against LSU last week.

To be fair, Nevada isn’t nearly as good as LSU, especially since Colin Kaepernick is now in the NFL.

But, if LaMichael James and Kenjon Barner are as ineffective this week as they were last week, the Ducks are in trouble.

No. 12 South Carolina (at Georgia)

6 of 9

Once again, an SEC matchup is never easy, and Georgia is a pretty good team.

Add in the fact that this is a road game for the Gamecocks, and it’s a pretty daunting task.

If the Bulldogs can stop Marcus Lattimore and limit Stephen Garcia, it could be a long day for South Carolina.

No. 11 Virginia Tech (at East Carolina)

7 of 9

East Carolina gave South Carolina a run for their money last week.

And, since South Carolina is probably a better team than the Hokies, VT needs to watch out.

The Pirates are a tough team and deserve respect from the Hokies.

No. 3 Alabama (at Penn State)

8 of 9

Alabama didn’t look like the No. 3 team in the country against Kent State last weekend.

The quarterbacks threw four interceptions, and Trent Richardson only had 37 rushing yards.

If that’s what happens this weekend, the Crimson Tide are definitely going to lose in Happy Valley.

5 Top 25 Teams That Will Cruise To Victory

9 of 9
  1. No. 2 LSU (vs. Northwestern State)
  2. No. 5 Florida State (vs. Charleston Southern)
  3. No. 6 Stanford (at Duke)
  4. No. 7 Texas A&M (vs. Idaho)
  5. No. 8 Wisconsin (vs. Oregon State)
