LSU Football: Russell Shepard Set to Return Against West Virginia
LSU quarterback Jarrett Lee will have a new weapon in a passing game that looked better than expected in a 40-27 victory over Oregon this past weekend.
However, he is going to have to wait until the Tigers' fourth game of the season.
Suspended wide receiver Russell Shepard will be eligible to return for LSU's fourth game when the Tigers play at West Virginia on Sept. 24.
Shepard was suspended before LSU's opener against Oregon for breaking an NCAA rule when he discussed an ongoing investigation with a teammate, relating to the potential relationship between the school and scouting service provider Willie Lyles. LSU is one of several schools being looked at for its involvement with Lyles.
The Tigers' were able to leave Cowboys Stadium with a victory over Oregon despite Shepard's absence, but he should make an immediate impact in LSU's offense upon his return.
The 6'1" junior wideout caught 33 passes for 254 yards and a touchdown last season, while also adding 226 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. He has elite speed and should provide a nice compliment opposite Rueben Randle. Shepard's reinstatement could help LSU form one of the best receiving duos in the SEC this season.
It is expected that Lee will remain under center for the Tigers, even if Jordan Jefferson does return to the team. Getting Shepard back in the mix will only help Lee and his development going forward.
The Tigers' defeated West Virgina 20-14 in their matchup last season.
Look for this one to be another close contest as well.
