College Football Predictions 2011: Predicting the Six AQ BCS Bowl Teams
Week 1 of the 2011 college football regular season is behind us, and many teams had impressive debuts.
There were some upsets and blowouts, and each of these made the outlook on the BCS bowls a little bit clearer.
Now it is early in the season, but it is never too early to start predicting the winners of each of the automatic-qualifying conferences and who will eventually receive a BCS Bowl bid.
Big East Conference
1 of 6Yes, I am drinking the Kool-Aid on the University of South Florida. USF recorded a huge win against Notre Dame in the opening week by beating them 23-20.
Now they are one of two teams in the Big East that are currently ranked, and they host the conference favorite, West Virgina, in a season finale which will determine the winner of the Big East.
Look for B.J. Daniels to lead this team past West Virginia and win the Big East outright.
Pacific 12 Conference
2 of 6With Oregon falling to LSU, I foresee the Stanford Cardinal as the Pac-12 favorite right now.
Outside of its game against University of Southern California, Stanford's toughest games are at home. Add in their quarterback and Heisman front-runner, Andrew Luck, and the Cardinal look like they are definitely the team to beat for the Pac-12 crown.
Atlantic Coast Conference
3 of 6Florida State's biggest question heading into the 2011 season was how much production would they receive from quarterback E.J. Manuel.
In Week 1, he completed 22-of-34 passes for over 200 yards and two touchdowns. This was against a weak opponent, Louisiana-Monroe, but he did look good.
Florida State will walk through the weak ACC.
Big Ten Conference
4 of 6Boy, did Russell Wilson look good in Wisconsin red.
He only attempted 13 passes, completing 10 of them, but he also ran for over 60 yards and a touchdown coming off a beautiful 46-yard run.
The Badgers have the best rushing attack in the conference, and I do not see any defense in the Big Ten having the athletes to stop Wisconsin.
Big 12 Conference
5 of 6There is a reason that Oklahoma is atop the polls. They are just simply better than the other top teams in the Big 12.
Sorry, Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State and Baylor. Oklahoma is the most complete team in the conference with probably the best quarterback in Landry Jones.
Oklahoma takes the Big 12.
Southeastern Conference
6 of 6The LSU Tigers are my pick to win the SEC. LSU just came off a convincing win against one of the top teams in the country, the Oregon Ducks.
The Tigers' defense forced four turnovers and had one touchdown. They will have some real competition in the tough SEC West, especially from Alabama.
Look for Jarrett Lee to lead the Tigers to a conference championship this year.
