Arizona Wildcats Football: 7 Names from Oklahoma State You Need to Know
The kickoff between the Oklahoma State Cowboys and the Arizona Wildcats is set for 8 P.M. (EST) at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
This matchup between these two BCS conference teams could have major implications in dark horse Oklahoma State trying to bust the BCS and the long-shot Wildcats.
These two teams have stellar offenses, which are focused on the passing game.
Don't be surprised if these teams combine for over 100 points and 1,000 yards.
Brandon Weeden
1 of 7The dynamic offense for Oklahoma State revolves around the play of senior quarterback Brandon Weeden.
In the opening week, the Cowboys passed for 458 yards, making them the top passing team in the country.
Weeden is similar to former Cowboy's quarterback Zac Robinson at effectively using his playmakers around him to move the football.
The OSU offense is loaded at every position, as you will see in the remaining slides.
Weeden on the year is 24-of-39 for 388 yards, but has had three costly picks.
Consistency will be key for Weeden.
Justin Blackmon
2 of 7Oklahoma State just seems to always have great wide receivers.
A few years ago it was Dez Bryant making game changing catches for the Cowboys.
Now that guy is Justin Blackmon.
Blackmon is one of the top two or three wide receivers in the country, and he’s already on the right track in 2011.
Against Louisiana-Lafayette, Blackmon caught eight passes for 144 yards.
Expect Blackmon to try to tear up the Wildcats’ secondary.
Mike Gundy
3 of 7Gundy will forever be associated with this post game meltdown.
Don’t forget how good of a coach Gundy is, though.
He’s one of the best offensive minds in college football.
Brodrick Brown
4 of 7Oklahoma State’s Brodrick Brown is one of the nation’s elite cornerbacks.
A while back, the Cowboys learned they would be without their dynamic safety, Johnny Thomas, who is serving a season long suspension.
Brown has stepped up his involvement in the secondary, and the Cowboys will need it when they face Arizona’s Nick Foles and the Wildcats’ ridiculously good passing game.
Brown likely will be the one called on to cover the Wildcats’ dynamic receiver, Juron Criner.
Josh Cooper
5 of 7The Cowboys have another great receiver in senior Josh Cooper.
Cooper wasn’t a huge contributor in the Cowboy’s victory over ULL, only catching one pass, but his one reception went for a 15-yard TD.
It’s difficult to have the best passing attack in college football with one playmaker, but the Cowboys have another great option to go to in Cooper.
Tracy Moore
6 of 7When two won’t do, go with three. Oklahoma State’s third receiver, Tracy Moore (seven receptions, 112 yards, one TD), is one of the more underrated playmakers on the Cowboys’ squad.
When you have Blackmon, Cooper and Moore going deep at the same time, secondaries don’t know how or who to cover.
Arizona Wildcats’ head coach, Mike Stoops, will be very frustrated with his defenses’ difficult task of shutting down OSU’s passing attack.
Joseph Randle
7 of 7I’ve spent most of the slides talking about Oklahoma State’s passing game (and for good reason), so here’s a name from the ground game you should know.
Since the Cowboys are so good at spreading out the field, running back Joseph Randle is able to take advantage of defenses pulling guys out of the box to cover receivers.
Against Louisiana-Lafayette, Randle rushed for 129 yards on 22 carries with two touchdowns. Don’t sleep on the Cowboy’s ability to run the ball.
