What Has Baylor Done for the Big 12 to Justify Blocking Texas A&M from the SEC?
Right now, Baylor has one of the hottest players in college football, QB Robert Griffin III, and it seems like the Bears could be in store for a big breakout season this year.
However, that hasn’t stopped the school from going into complete panic mode today.
Why?
Well, with the recent news that Texas A&M has been accepted into the SEC, it looks like the Big 12 conference has just taken its final fatal blow.
Oklahoma and Oklahoma State are expected to jump ship and head to the Pac-12, and Texas and Texas Tech might join them as well, making it college football’s first super conference.
Where does that leave the other five remaining teams, Baylor, Kansas State, Kansas, Iowa State and Missouri?
Well, Missouri, Kansas State and Kansas should have no trouble finding a home, and it’s likely that the Big Ten will come calling for their services, but Baylor and Iowa State could be the two odd schools out in the wake of all of this, and that’s why you’re seeing Baylor trying to stand in the way of Texas A&M’s move.
Baylor is the only team that hasn’t signed off on Texas A&M’s departure, even though the SEC was assured by the Big 12 that there would be no problems before the school presidents made their vote last night.
Baylor could threaten legal action, citing loss of future revenue due to the breakup of the Big 12, but it’s doubtful that the Bears would have a leg to stand on in court.
Since Baylor is the only team that is blocking the move, it just seems a bit petty at this point.
This isn’t exactly a team with the reputation and strong history of an Oklahoma or a Texas, two teams that have carried the Big 12 since its inception.
Yes, you can certainly understand Baylor’s point of view and sympathize with them, since they’re probably going to be the ones who are left out in the cold after all of this goes down, while schools like Oklahoma and Texas skip off to bigger and better things.
The reality is that this team just hasn’t done enough for the Big 12 to complain. The Bears were mostly just along for the ride.
Trust me, Fox didn’t offer the Big that $1.2 billion TV deal because they wanted a piece of Baylor.
Get real.
Yes Baylor, we understand you’re getting a raw deal because everyone’s hopping off the Big 12 ship, but now is not the time to quibble and complain.
It’s time to either sink or swim.
Texas A&M is going to the SEC, whether you like it or not, Oklahoma is probably headed to the Pac-12 and the Big 12 is now laying on its death bed, gasping for air.
That’s the reality.
So, do the right thing, quit complaining and start getting out there and pitching your services to other conferences, because if you don’t do that soon, then you’re going to go down with the ship.
