What They're Saying
After beating Memphis 59-14 in their opener last Thursday, Bulldogs Coach Dan Mullen was happy about the extra amount of preparation time given to his team and coaches. He said this to the Sports Network:
""We start conference play in [nine] days against the defending national champions" A lot of schools get three or four games to get focused on that, but we have [nine] days to get all of those little things fixed and go on the road and try to win a big football game."
"
In the same article, Auburn Coach Gene Chizik came off as anything but optimistic after his team's opening week win over Utah State.
""No question about it, I think it is obvious that we did not play well as a football team. There are no excuses for that. I think it was very evident that our most experienced part of our football team is our special teams. I don't think there is any question that offensively and defensively we are a long way off from being able to win very many games right now."

Mississippi State Player to Watch
If Auburn can't keep the quarterback/running back duo of Chris Relf and Vick Ballard in check, this one will get ugly.
Relf threw for 202 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 51 yards against Memphis. Ballard rushed for 66 yards and three touchdowns.
Auburn Player to Watch
Barrett Trotter had a strong game against Utah State. He was 17 for 23 with 261 yards passing. Trotter will need to have similar efficiency for Auburn's offense to stay with the Bulldog attack.
Key Matchup
Relf vs. The Auburn secondary. Utah State was 22 for 31 passing against Auburn. Ballard can have a good day on the ground, but it can't come with a big day from Relf as well.
Key Storyline
Auburn has a lot of heart, but has lost a lot of talent from their National Championship squad. Will the losses catch up to them this week?
Prediction:
Mississippi State's attack is just too strong. Look for them to jump out to a big lead and then withstand whatever runs the Tigers make. The Bulldogs win and cover the spread relatively easily.
