Georgia Football: Advice for Mark Richt Before the Game Against South Carolina
After a disappointing loss to Boise State, the next game for Mark Richt is arguably the most important in his career.
He has had bigger games in his career, but when the Bulldogs take on South Carolina, it’s a must-win for Richt because if the Bulldogs lose, there’s no telling what will happen next.
So with that said, the game on Saturday is a winnable game for UGA. But Richt has to do some things in order for his team to come away with a victory.
Here’s some advice for Richt going into his second game of the season.
Start from Scratch
1 of 5When Richt and his players are preparing for the Gamecocks, they have to go back to the drawing board. The Bulldogs had months to prepare for Boise State and did not look ready.
What he has to do is have his team put the Boise game behind them and act like this is the start of the season.
Because in reality, the Boise game was huge, but a win against South Carolina will put you in the race for the SEC title game.
Be Aggressive on Defense
2 of 5Richt has to talk to defensive coordinator Todd Grantham and tell him that he has to be more aggressive on defense.
The Bulldogs were doing fine on defense at the start of the game against Boise State, but once Kellen Moore figured out what the Bulldogs were doing, the defense did not counter.
Richt does not get involved with the defense, but for the sake of his job, getting involved would not be a bad idea.
Be Creative on Offense
3 of 5This is for the offense. Richt trusts offensive coordinator Mike Bobo with calling the plays, but it might be time for a change.
Richt was an offensive guru at Florida State, and the offense for the Bulldogs right now is too ordinary. Richt has to put his playmakers in position to makes plays like what Brandon Boykin did on Saturday with the 80-yard touchdown run.
South Carolina’s defense is always aggressive, and Richt has to think outside the box when it comes to creating plays for the offense.
Talk to the Players
4 of 5Richt talks to his players every day obviously, but before the Bulldogs take the field on Saturday, he should sit down with all his players and talk about how they feel about how he’s doing and the state of the program.
Players know that the media is talking about how Richt’s job is virtually on the line, so it would be good to see if the players really have his back and if they will do whatever it takes to get a win on Saturday.
Be Yourself
5 of 5There has been a lot of criticism about how Richt goes about his business. He doesn’t get too high after a win or doesn’t get too low after a loss.
Richt should not, and will not change for anybody. He had that calm manner when Georgia was winning on a consistent basis, and he’s not going to change now.
If he does act like crazy person on Saturday, then he knows that his days are numbered.
