NCAA Football Rankings: LSU Jumps to No. 2 in One Poll, No. 3 in the Other
After an impressive 40-27 win over Oregon on Saturday night, the LSU Tigers are climbing their way up the college football rankings.
The Tigers moved up to No. 2 in this week's AP Top 25 rankings, vaulting past Alabama and up two spots from last week. In the USA Today Coaches Poll, Alabama is still at No. 2, with LSU one spot behind at No. 3.
This was a move that many could have seen coming, but the question is: Why did the Tigers not move up to the No. 2 spot in both polls?
LSU was No. 4 heading into the season; that ranking was simply based on their body of work from last year and what the team returned heading into this season. Therefore, a team's Week 1 performances should have a huge impact as to where they are ranked.
In LSU's case, they not only beat No. 3 ranked Oregon, they looked great doing so. The Tigers committed just one turnover on the offensive end, while their defense forced four turnovers against an offense that many believed to be the best in the country.
On the other end, Alabama did cruise to a convincing 48-7 victory over Kent State, but they certainly didn't look as impressive as the scoreboard might have indicated.
The Tide committed five turnovers in the victory, four of which came on interceptions from their unproven quarterback duo of A.J. McCarron and Phillip Sims.
It is no secret that Alabama is loaded with talent on the defensive side of the ball, but then again, so is LSU, and holding Oregon to just 27 points is far more impressive than holding Kent State to seven points.
At this point, it can't be argued that Oklahoma ought to remain at No. 1, because they looked like the top college football team on Saturday.
But LSU should be No. 2 in every poll known to man.
Bottom line.
