College Football Recruiting 2012: The Top 7 Offensive Skill Recruiting Classes

Edwin WeathersbySep 6, 2011

You've heard me mention a few times on how I feel Michigan has the best LB class in the country and a few other similar claims.

For this read, I'm going to give you seven schools whom I feel possess elite offensive skill position talent and classes.

These schools have a solid incoming class of QBs, RBs, WRs and TEs. Did your favorite program make the list?

Come find out!

7. California

1 of 7

Cal doesn't have that many commitments, and them making this list is a bit of a shock but when you have Zach Kline and Bryce Treggs in the fold, you're doing well skill position-wise.

Kline is one of the best QB prospects in the country and has a shotgun for an arm. I think he could start early in his career in Berkley.

Treggs could be the second coming of DeSean Jackson, as he is an electric WR that has elite quickness, agility, speed and RAC skills.

6. Florida

2 of 7

Florida likely won't sign a top notch QB this year as they took two last year. However it seems like they are loading up on rock toters.

The Gators have two great RB pledges in 6'3", 210 pound Matt Jones, and 5'10", 200 pound Mike Davis. Jones reminds me a bit of Steven Jackson of the Rams, but some say he should move to LB.

Davis has a chip on his shoulder, as he feels he is vastly underrated by all of the recruiting publications.

Both will tote the rock at UF with something to prove.

Also Colin Thompson is rated the third best TE prospect by Scout.com

5. Texas A&M

3 of 7

A&M has a top 10 class right now and they're almost finished with recruiting for 2012.

Their offensive skill position class is lead by QB/ATH Matt Davis, an athletic dual threat style signal caller that can burn a defense throwing or running.

Trey Williams may not be the largest man in the world, but the 5'8", 175 pound RB has elite speed, quickness agility and jump cut ability. He should be a playmaker in College Station.

Bralon Addison is listed as an ATH by some, but it looks like the Aggies will let his playmaking ability develop at the WR position.

4. Oklahoma

The Sooners have hauled in an impressive collection of offensive skill players this class.

Trevor Knight is a QB with a quick release that OU swayed from Texas A&M.

WR Sterling Shepard is a quick slickster out of the slot, but WR Durron Neal has drawn comparisons to Ryan Broyles and is an elite offensive flanks player.

RB Alex Ross is a 6'1", 205 pounder that runs strong, physical but also has very good speed.

3. Texas

5 of 7

I debated with myself about who should be at No. 2 between the Longhorns and the school after this slide. I could be wrong, but I'm going with Texas here.

You have to love Texas' offensive skill class, as Mack Brown has the best overall class in the country. QB Connor Brewer is a great prospect that people claim has the "it" factor.

Cayleb Jones and Thomas Johnson should be starters in Austin in a few years, as Jones 6'2" frame and natural receiving skills make him a 5-star recruit. Johnson has battled some injuries in high school, but his speed and RAC skills are top notch.

Then finally, 5-star RB Johnathan Gray is tops at his position and a player I have extremely high expectations for.

2. Florida State

6 of 7

The Seminoles are in the hunt for the best overall class, and surely their offensive skill position class is one of their keys.

It all starts with QB Jameis Winston, whom the Noles simply took from Alabama and LSU. Winston is the No. 1 and premier QB prospect in the nation, as the 6'4", 190-pounder is a dual threat type that people say is a bigger Charlie Ward.

RB Mario Pender averaged nearly 14, yes 14, yards per carry as a junior, while WR Marvin Bracy is the fastest high school football player in the country.

TE Christon Kourtzidis is a 4-star prospect should be a solid player in Tallahassee.

1. Auburn

7 of 7

Auburn is loading up on the offensive side, and their not just taking anybody, the Tigers are taking quality recruits.

QB Zeke Pike is a 6'6", 225 pounder with a a super cannon for an arm, moxie and solid athleticism. He should be a prime player for Gus Malzahn's offense.

WR Ricardo Louis plays QB now, but his 6'2", 200-pound frame, deep speed and all around playmaking ability will make him a dynamic WR on The Plains. Jovon Robinson and Jaquay Williams will help immensely.

TEs Ricky Parks and Darrion Hutcherson surely will do damage up the seams, and RB TJ Yeldon is the best at his position in the state of Alabama.

All prospects are 4-stars or higher.
