College Football Rankings 2011: Oklahoma No. 1, Notre Dame out of Coaches Poll

Randy ChambersJun 7, 2018

The new USA TODAY Coaches Poll was released just a few minutes ago and there are similar changes to the AP Poll that was also released today.

Both the Oklahoma Sooners and the Alabama Crimson Tide hold on to their respective number one and number two spots. Unlike the AP Poll, the LSU Tigers sit at number three after their very impressive victory over the Oregon Ducks. Although they did receive seven first place votes, compared to the two they received in the preseason poll.

Much like in the AP Poll, the Oregon Ducks slide down but land at number 14 after an embarrassing loss to the LSU Tigers. Oregon started the season with National Championship dreams but those may be all but gone after the performance they put on in week one.

The other team that had an impressive victory was the Boise State Broncos, and they jumped from seventh to to fifth in the rankings. They hopped over the Stanford Cardinal which currently sit at number six, putting them one point behind the Florida State Seminoles.

The TCU Horned Frogs sit at number 25 despite losing to the Baylor Bears, which unlike the AP Poll still remained unranked.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish fell out of the USA Today top 25 with probably the most embarrassing loss of the week to the South Florida Bulls. The Georgia Bulldogs are another team that fell out of the top 25.

The Oklahoma Sooners received 43 of the 59 top votes this week with the Crimson Tide picking up the remaining nine.
