Florida Football Recruiting 2012: 5-Star Recruits Gators Hope They Can Snag

Edwin WeathersbySep 6, 2011

Florida is enjoying themselves an excellent recruiting year for the 2012 cycle and sit easily among the top five classes right now. The Gators are no strangers when it comes to landing 5-star recruits and this year is no different.

I've got five, count 'em five, 5-star recruits that Florida has a pretty good shot at landing. The Gainesville Guys already have three committed, so pulling in a couple more would surely place UF square in the discussion for No.1 overall class.

Here they are.

No. 5 Noah Spence, DE

1 of 5

Spence is a 6'4", 240-pound DE that has a super quick first step, a burst to close and finish, and speed to make plays from the backside.

He has a top seven that includes Florida, but the Gators need to make the final cut to five as Spence only can take five visits.

He says he has a strong relationship with Will Muschamp and Dan Quinn, and likes their ideas for how to use him should he come to UF.

No. 4 Avery Young, OL

2 of 5

6'6", 285-pounds, Young is a talented OL prospect that figures to play OT in college. He has the agility, foot quickness and mirror ability to play LT.

Way back this year I thought Oklahoma was the school to beat for Young, but it looks like that has changed. The top four schools for Young, right now, are Auburn, Alabama, Florida and Georgia.

Young has family ties to UGA, and speculation has it that this is a Florida vs. Georgia battle, in all honesty.

Florida is going to work Young until they get his signed LOI.

No. 3 Jordan Jenkins, DE

3 of 5

Jenkins is one of the best athletes in the country and people call the 6'3", 250-pound DE prospect "The Freak". Could he be the next Jevon Kearse in Gainesville?

Maybe, but the Gators have some competition, most notably from Alabama. Georgia and Auburn are also in contention.

But many speculate that right now, Jenkins is looking the hardest at the Gators and Crimson Tide.

No. 2 Stefon Diggs, WR/ATH

4 of 5

Diggs is a 6'0", 190-pound WR that can also play RB, CB, DS and return kicks and punts. He's a quicker than fast athlete that has excellent stop/start ability.

Diggs is electric as a RAC player.

He had a great trip to Auburn, but Florida looks really good right now with Diggs. He and his mother have ties to the state and Diggs is really digging the Gators.

No. 1 Keith Marshall, RB

5 of 5

November 26th. Circle that date, Gator fans.

Because that's the date that Keith Marshall, the 5-star RB from North Carolina will be visiting Gainesville to check out the UF program.

5'11", 185-pounds, Marshall is a speedster with a 4.3 40-time, quickness and elite home run ability. He will also trip to Notre Dame and Georgia, and is also considering Alabama, USC, Auburn, UNC and South Carolina among several others.

The Gators are going to have to put the press on Marshall, but many say he does have an inkling for playing in the SEC.
