College Football Rankings 2011: AP Top 25 Poll Released, LSU Jumps to No. 2

Randy ChambersSep 6, 2011

The AP Poll released a few minutes ago with some big changes from just a week ago.

The first thing you notice is the huge win for the LSU Tigers against the Oregon Ducks jumped them to No. 2 in the rankings. Before the game, they were ranked No. 4, but voters believed the win was so impressive that they jumped the Alabama Crimson Tide for the second spot.

The Boise State Broncos jumped from No. 5 to No. 4 this week with a solid victory over the Georgia Bulldogs. Boise is often criticized for playing weak teams every season, so a victory over an above-average Georgia Bulldogs team was worth giving credit for.

The Oregon Ducks went from the No. 3 spot and having National Championship dreams to falling nine spots to No. 13 with the 40-27 loss to the LSU Tigers. I guess the 12 penalties and four turnovers in a sloppy loss was enough for voters to write this team off early.

Probably the most shocking news in the poll this week is the Auburn Tigers not being ranked.

The Tigers were ranked 23rd heading into the game against the Utah State Aggies. They ended up winning the game, but it took two touchdowns in the final two minutes to do so. A victory next week against the Mississippi State Bulldogs should be enough to get them back in the poll.

The Baylor Bears went from being unranked to sitting at No. 20 with an impressive victory over the TCU Horned Frogs.

South Florida, Penn State and Texas are other teams that were unranked last week that are ranked this week.
