College Football Week 2: 3 Biggest Games on the Docket
With college football in full swing, there are some big games happening in Week 2. Teams have hopefully worked out the kinks through their first game and now look to establish a dominant force that will ultimately lead to the BCS National Championship Game.
The match-ups that I chose for this week are Mississippi St. vs Auburn, Georgia vs South Carolina and Notre Dame vs Michigan.
These games will be the big ones for week 2, which should make for some interesting match-ups.
Mississippi State vs. Auburn
1 of 3On Saturday the 10th at 12:21 pm ET, No. 20 Mississippi State will be on the road taking on last year's National Champion No. 23 Auburn. This is going to be a huge game for both teams, as both have a very tough schedule this season. Auburn faces some of their tough opponents later in the season, while Mississippi St. will be facing those same teams much earlier in the season.
This is a must win for Mississippi St. With a harsh schedule, they are going to have to win these tough games so that they can prepare for some of their tougher opponents like Alabama.
Auburn is going to need to win this one if they want to move up in the AP poll and prove that they can win key match-ups.
My prediction is that Auburn will take this one. They are a strong team, and, as last year's National Champion, they are going to be hungry to climb back up the ranks. Plus, they are at home, and Auburn is a tough place to play.
South Carolina vs. Georgia
2 of 3On Saturday the 10th at 4:30pm ET, look for the No. 12 ranked South Carolina Gamecocks vs. No. 19 Georgia Bulldogs at Georgia. Georgia is coming off of a 35-21 loss to No. 5 Boise State, so they will be hungry for a win. The Gamecocks won their season opener against the East Carolina Pirates in a 56-37 blowout.
Both teams have relatively similar schedules with similar opponents; this game will definitely be a test for both teams, who are looking to move up within the AP poll this season.
My prediction for this game is going with the Gamecocks. Georgia is a tough opponent, but I think the Gamecocks offense will be too much for the Bulldogs defense, but, nevertheless, it is going to be a heck of a game.
Game of the Week: Notre Dame vs. Michigan
3 of 3On Saturday, September 10th, at 8:00 pm ET, the No. 16 ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish will take on the Michigan Wolverines. This is the game of the week because it is an intense rivalry, and it is guaranteed to be a good game.
After suffering a loss to the South Florida Bulls (USF), the Irish look to rebound and prove that they deserve the No. 16 rank. The Irish have some very important games coming up and will want wins against Michigan, Michigan St. and Pittsburgh. Notre Dame is going to have to shut down Michigan's offense in the first half. Against USF, the Irish gave up 16 points and were left scoreless at half, this cannot happen against Michigan. The Irish must score early and often.
On the opposite end, Michigan is coming off a win against the Western Michigan Broncos. They will be playing the Irish at home, which is a huge advantage for the Wolverines. The key to the game for them is stopping the Irish early; if they can shut down the Irish early, this game is their's to win as they look to find themselves on the AP poll.
My prediction for this game is Michigan. Michigan is always a tough opponent, and the fact that they are playing Notre Dame will only make them play harder. After their Week 1 performance, Notre Dame does not have me convinced that they have what it takes to be a No. 16 ranked team.
